Hi,
I recently started using JFBConnect and have been using the documentation to help me configure.
My problem is with this page
www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/docs/face...facebook-application
that has instructions that are not reflected on FB's developer's view
I have contacted Alex Andreae who has given me this link with more up to date info

but unfortunately the link doesnt seem to work for me
Thanks
Mik

There's a missing letter at the end of the YouTube url. It should be:

Sorry for that confusion. As mentioned in email, that video is of features in the upcoming v5.1 release due out later this summer. It will still hopefully help.

We're planning to have the text documentation updated later this week.

I hope that helps, but if you run into issues or have any questions, just let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks for the response.
I am interested in having OG post to user timelines when they read articles on my site
I have managed to create the objects and actions in JFBconnect..
but for some reason the test isnt successful on the website.
Testing in object debugger gives correct results
What could be the problem?

Mik,
Yeesh. Very sorry for not getting back to this sooner.

We will get on this and get you going ASAP. Can you help provide more information on exactly what you're trying to do with the object/action? The general use case (currently) is to add the read action when a user reads an article. JFBConnect v5.1 will greatly expand on that, but there are some other things that can be done in v5.0. To let us help you more, please let us know:
* A URL of the 'object' page you've created (like an article)
* How you've setup the action
* What you mean by "Testing in object debugger gives correct results ". Do you mean in the Facebook URL Debug Tool which checks your object settings, or something else?
* Have you checked the "Activity Log" area (from the link in the bottom right of your cover photo on your FB profile)? If the action is showing up there, that's what matters. Before your action has been submitted and approved by Facebook, it will not show in your Timeline. Even after being approved, it's not guaranteed to show in the Timeline. Facebook will determine how and where actions are displayed (Timeline, ticker, news feed, etc).

Since it's taken so long for us to respond, also feel free to Private Message us a set of Super Admin credentials to your site and we can gladly get into the admin area to check that everything seems setup correctly there. That's not necessary now as the questions above may help us find where something may be wrong, but it could speed things up.

Thanks,
Alex

I am trying to do something simple
When a user reads an article.. it should post on their walls

My biggest challange is in FB developers page which isnt allowing me to create a Read an Article story
It says the read action is restricted and the Read action doesnt appear in the list of actions when I try to create a new story

I know it must be something simple, but I am stuck

I have sent u an email with the website's details

Thanks for the admin credentials. The news.reads action is something that doesn't need to be setup in the Application area anymore. It's automatically added when it's used.

I just setup your action and object properly and when I read an article, the following posted in the Activity Log:

(#3506) The action type news:Read does not exist or is not approved, so app 156875744497811 can only publish to administrators, developers, and testers of the app. User 1251253607 is not one of those roles.

That's expected since I'm not an admin on your application. Now, please try on your own with an admin user and let us know if it properly posts to the Facebook Activity Log. From there, you can follow the directions in our actions guide to submit it for approval by Facebook.

I hope that helps, but if you run into anything else, just let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks Alex for your response..
I have added u as an admin in FB so u can check if I have it properly configured there.
I have been able to configure JFB in the joomla site.. My challenge is setting up the story in FB so that I can submit it for approval.
I cant setup any story with the read action.. Or I dont have to set up a story?? thats my confusion
After going through the documentation,,, I am able to setup any other form of stories e,g "Mik cooked a recipe " e.t.c..its the Read action that is giving me a headache

The read action changed by Facebook in early June to not have to be created in their interface ahead of time. You simply create the action type in your site of news.reads (I did this for you in your Joomla admin area already) and an object type of article (I did this as well). Then, JFBConnect can use that action.

The documentation is out of date as we prepare for the next big release, coming out by the end of this month. The documentation is correct for new actions "cooked a recipe" as you've apparently done. The 'built-in' actions, like news.reads (reading an article) don't need to be created in Facebook beforehand, like they used to.

In other words, with how I setup JFBConnect on your site, you should be ready to test the "reads an article" action right now. I'll test as a FB admin later today as well if I don't hear from you, just to make sure you get going.

Eduardo,
I'm sorry for the issues you're having. The Open Graph documentation is the only area that we think is out of date right now. That will be fixed by the end of the month with many more instruction videos and updated docs. However, the new documentation we're working on is for the updated release.

I know I'm already helping you in this post and this post . If there's something I haven't already answered there please let me know and we'll gladly help to get you going. As stated in both of those posts, the main issue it looks like you're having in both of those posts is that you're trying to use the new {JFBCAction} tag, which won't be available until the v5.1 release.

Thanks for your patience, and I do apologize for the out of date actions docs,
Alex
