Using joomla 2.5.9 with JFBC 5.0
Number of facebook likes on blog view appears correctly ,however doesn't show correctly on article view.
This has started automatically since last week, without any change in settings or change in joomla version, earlier it has been working fine.

It seems like something changed on your server or within Joomla then. In the blog view, the Like button is linking to:

roundtableindia.co.in/index.php?option=c...d=119&Itemid=132


However, in the article itself, JFBConnect is generating the Like URL as:

roundtableindia.co.in/index.php?option=c...ature&Itemid=132


The difference is the ":feature" text at the end of the category ID. This looks to be a bug with Joomla actually because, from the blog view, when you click the link, there is no :feature in the article URL. However, if you are in the article, the title is a link, and that link *does* include the :feature in the text.

Have you switched the articles or category or something to be 'featured' recently? Were there any other changes you've made to Joomla or your category settings?

Hi Alex,

checked with server team, from their side its no change.

Further we have been using only joomla 2.5.9 only since last 4 months, haven't changed the version, so i understand there is no scope for change that side also.

Further after your response yesterday, to just check if its particular bug within joomla, i downgraded the joomla version to 2.5.8 and then 2.5.7 and now its running 2.5.11. however during for all these 4 versions of joomla, i did not notice any change in behaviour for facebook likes, they remained the same way, dispalying different number on blog view and different number on article view.

In response to your another query regarding "featured articles", we do not use "featured articles" for joomla, for us in our website "feature" is just one of the joomla category.

Now i got some very interesting observation.attaching two snapshots, in one of which url has the category name, and in the other one it doesnt have...

didnt notice any difference in the number of likes on both url...

and the most surprising thing is that we also have facebook comments, comments remain the same(Fb comments working fine).

but in the settings of the FB comments the debugger url, contains category id in both cases.. :)

My feeling is that this is some sort of facebook bug, might be introduced coz of recent changes in facebook..

Please help!!!!

Facebook has always tracked Like counts by the URL that is provided. The :feature would be where the problem is coming from. I would honestly assume that the problem didn't just start a week or so ago, but that's when you noticed.

It looks like you have uncovered a bug in how Joomla works in that 2 URLs are being generated for the same URL. One is from the blog view and does *not* include the category name when clicked on. The other is generated when you are inside an article and it does include the category name. JFBConnect simply asks Joomla when the article is being displayed, "What is the URL for this article?" Because of that, we're relying on Joomla to be consistent and in your case, the URL is being reported differently in both cases.

We can look into more about why Joomla is doing what it's doing, but I don't know if this is something we'll be able to fix on JFBConnect's end. There haven't been any updates to JFBConnect or Facebook recently that would have changed this. Facebook will always have a unique Like count for unique URLs.
