Hi there, trying hard to get an important feature working that I need, but questions...

I'm aiming to import Facebook content (and other social media streams) into Joomla, ideally into a module where the content is displayed as an integrated stream. Be great, perfect, if SourceCoast could do this (JEverythingConnect!), but I'm trying a couple of other extensions as the feature doesn't seem to be there as yet with JFBConnect.

Not too bad for one of them, but the other extension (that seems better) wants me to set up an FB app, get the App ID and secret key and enter into the extension's parameters, as with JFBC.

So the question, do I just enter the same id and key as I have already got and am using for JFBConnect? Will this cause a problem? The extension just imports the content into Joomla and exports Joomla content out to Facebook. I don't think it is involved in creating users as such.

Or should I set up a new FB App? And would using two apps on the one domain cause problems? I should add to this last, the first extension I tried doesn't require me to create the app, the extensions seems to obtain a 'serial code' from the developer's website and pass this to the extension. Can you see this extension's approach to creating and App making a problem?

Thanks as ever for the info!

You'd have to test and see, frankly. From what you state, it sounds like the other extension works on the server side of things, not in the browser using Javascript. If so, that should mean you can use the same App ID and Secret Key and things likely won't conflict. If the other extension includes the Facebook Javascript library on the page, that *can* conflict with JFBConnect though.

It's possible even the server-side stuff could cause problems, but we've done a lot of work to make sure we can work with other extensions that have Facebook integration. It's not a 100% guarantee that everything works seamlessly, but we do what we can.

Let us know.. also, feel free to post (or Private Message) a link to the other extension you like so we can check out the features. We have lots of plans for JFBConnect, but always like to see what our users think we're missing.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi there, yes seems to work together pretty well. Just added in the same id and key to the second extension and no conflicts afaik.

Having said that, I've sent you my idea for 'JEverythingConnect' in a mightily long pm. Hopefully something useful in there! :=D

I haven't fully read your PM yet (skimmed the email notice about it). There's a lot of integration with other social networks coming. That's basically the next big area for us to tackle, and we're ready. You'll start seeing the initial developments in that direction over the next few months and big progress by the end of the year.

Glad to hear everything's working well for you, and should you have more questions/feedback, just let us know.

Thanks,
Alex
