Hi,
I would like to know if JFBConnect along with it's modules and plugins (for instance JFBInvite) is integrated with Jomsocial Point system? I'm currently using InviteX, and thought of switching completely to JFBConnect if JFBInvite can assign points to users when they send invitations.

No, we currently don't support the JomSocial point system for invitations. I'm pretty sure points are assigned during registration though, for uploading an avatar. I'd need to check that though if that's a requirement.

For the invitation system, we currently do reward points using Alpha User Points. Changing that logic to reward points for JomSocial shouldn't be that difficult and something we could help you implement.. as well as including it in a future release.

Hope that helps answer your question,
Alex

Hi Alex,
Thanks for the reply.

I use Jomsocial and am currently using InviteX for sending invitations via Facebook, twitter etc. This plugin is actually well integrated with Jomsocial's point system. Here is an example. When a user sends invitation via Facebook to his friend, upon successful registration of his friend, both inviter and invitee gets some points. This can be configured in backend.

The plugin seems to be quiet powerful but I'm having some problem with the plugin with lots of bugs and the plugin seems very complex. I wanted something very simple like JFB. If there is something similar to InviteX point allocation in JFB, it would be awesome. I'm about to renew my subscription and wanted to clarify if this feature could be included.

Sriram,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to this. Rewarding points in JomSocial is pretty easy, it's just a few lines of code. We are planning more integration for point rewards in the future, as well as much more integration with JomSocial. I don't have the timeline on all the new features we're planning. If you choose to resubscribe though, we can gladly help you implement the few lines of code it would take to reward points when a user sends a Facebook request.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,
Thanks for the reply. One final question before I renew my subscription =) . Once I send an invitation and after my friend joined the site, will he/she be added as my friend in Jomsocial automatically? Can this be achieved?

It may be possible, but that's not something I'd know how to do off-hand. There'd have to be a bit of work there to make sure the tracking worked well. For example, the user accepts the request, but doesn't join then (maybe a few days later). Additionally, if the user chooses to register through Joomla and not Facebook, that would be even more difficult to link the 2 events.

It's a good idea, but not something I can promise is readily do-able or even possible.

Hope that helps answer your question, even if it's not specifically what you were looking to hear.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,
Thanks for the reply. I understand the two different scenarios. But this process of awarding points to users when the event happens is something like how dropbox does. If the guest I invite via JFB Facebook request, and if that person used my invite to join the site, then both the inviter and invitee gets points and the invitee is added as a friend to the inviter. Like how you mentioned, after a couple of days, the invitee ignored the invite and joined directly via the site, there won't be any points awarded to either parties and they won't be added as friends.

Do you think this makes sense and is it doable? I managed to get the SSL setup and running fine and just nice to install your updated version. This feature will be great to have if you can make it. :)

I understand what you're looking for, but that's getting very into a full-blown affiliate extension. It's a great idea, and something that is lacking for Joomla, but not something we're working on.

For now, I'd gladly state that we can add the rewarding of points for inviting users.

However, rewarding points to the inviter and automatically making them friends is more difficult for two reasons:
* For the friend request being accepted, Facebook will not supply the user id of the user accepting the request *until* they have clicked the login button and approved your app. If they supplied the ID before then, it'd be a privacy issue. So, to reward points, that would mean we'd have to do more tracking after the initial acceptance, which, as noted above, could be a lot of work.
* Automatically creating a friend link could make some users unhappy. If we added it, it would be an option, but would still require the additional tracking as mentioned above, which we're not signing up for right now.

Hope that helps explain. We'd love to have you as a subscriber, but I won't make promises we can't keep.
Alex

Hi Alex,
Thanks again for your detailed reply. I understand the situation and your views. Even without these customizations, I'm still updating. No doubt in it. Once I make my purchase (which will be in a day or two later), i'll let you know so you can include the awarding points to users for inviting friends. Rest of the features seems too complex at this point.

I've found a bug/ issue with my existing version 4.3.4. Since I'm still developing my site, I had to login as different users to test their roles etc. One of my account is connected to Facebook using JFBConnect. I use the same PC to login different users, and only 1 is a JFBConnect Facebook user in it. Most of the time my facebook will be open in some other tab of the browser logged in. I've the auto login enabled in JFB. Sometimes, when I try to login as some other users (whose accounts are not JFB Connected), JFB actually lets them logs them in using their user name and password, but the facebook account is now associated to them. Something weird is happening here. Like if I login using the Improved AJAX login module when JFB is trying to see if a FB session is open, JFB sometimes maps the wrong user with a wrong facebook account. This has happened quiet a number of times to me already.

Is this a known issue? Has this been already fixed?

Sriram,
When you say "JFB actually lets them logs them in using their user name and password," how are they logging in? Using the Joomla username/password and logging in?

It shouldn't be 'connecting' the Facebook and Joomla account, but there can be cases where you can do this. Logging in and out with multiple users on the same computer isn't a common situation either. If you have "Auto-login" enabled and aren't logging out of Facebook, that's also another way that JFBConnect will simply try to log the user back in. So, there's a lot possible causes, but I'd need a lot more step-by-step information on what user is logging in (and how), when they log out, if 'logout of joomla only' is enabled, and other types of information to recreate and understand the issue.

In general, each release does have a lot of improvements and bug-fixes when we find them. Can't guarantee this is fixed, but I also don't think it's a normal real-world situation (more of a developer issue when doing testing).

Thanks,
Alex
