Hi,
I've tried updating by clicking the update button from the backend of Joomla. (Clicking update buttons is just about the extent of my knowledge and technical abilities)

It seems that this was not enough. There is apparently a particular plugin I have to install screencast.com/t/BDklwlbD4
bit it's not clear to me what it's called and which one on this page
www.sourcecoast.com/index.php?option=com_ars&view=release&id=39
it might be.

In addition, there seems to be several modules that I must install but when I download say mod_jfbcfollow_j2.5_v5.0.0.zip
I get an xml and a php file which cannot be installed via the normal method. My guess is that I must replace these files with the current ones via ftp but I'm relectant to do that without being sure that's what I'm supposed to do.

Would appreciate clear instructions for the technically challenged. I get that this is very obvious for most people but it's not for me. Thanks.

Peter,
You'll need to download the main package from the My Subscription area of this site. Unzip that file and there's a directory called "profiles". Install the JomSocial social profile plugin from that directory. That replaces the old 'JFBCProfile - JomSocial' profile plugin that it looks like you have installed.

The jfbcfollow module is a new module with JFBConnect v5.0. It's not required that you install it, it's optional like most other social modules we have. The zip file that you mentioned should definitely be installed with the Joomla installer. You do not need to unzip it locally first, install that exact file with the Joomla installer: mod_jfbcfollow_j2.5_v5.0.0.zip

You should not ever need to use FTP to update or change JFBConnect settings. That's not something we've ever required or plan to.

I hope that helps get you going, and sorry for the confusion. There were definitely quite a few changes in JFBConnect v5.0, and we definitely could have documented things better. We're working on improving that, and appreciate your feedback.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks. Your response was helpful as usual.

Joomla is still telling me that I need to update these modules. See screencast.com/t/8gXBXg6K
I've refreshed that page after installing the files as you described but they still show up as if I need to update them.

Also. What about the open graph files. See screencast.com/t/Sz27gwEeoMeP
I take it that I should install all of these. After I install them are there any other steps needed?

Just did the autotune and everything checked out fine. Yet I still have the same problem that I've posted here several times already. I write a review and the publish to facebook is checked. But it doesn't publish to my wall, the person I'm logged in as. Typically when i submit this here as a bug it works for you, and then when I check it works. What could be causing this problem?

Also, how can I get these activities to post on the the Facebook page of my site. www.facebook.com/GoodTalkTnt?fref=ts
Nothing gets posted there unless I do it manually.

Glad everything checks out on Autotune properly.

As for the review, I did just test on the following listing, and it did post to my Facebook account after I checked the "Post to Facebook" box and submitted. Feel free to delete the review: hotels-inns-resorts-guesthouses/679-rovanel-s-resort

I'm not exactly sure why you'd have those issues after upgrading. My best guess is that it's a caching issue, either with Joomla or your browser. After you upgrade anything, I'd highly recommend clearing the Joomla caches and even your browser cache to make sure all the new settings are loaded.

Obviously, keep testing, and let us know how that goes.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks for the response Alex. This issue happened just before I upgraded so it was not tied to this latest upgrade. In fact I upgraded to see if it would go away.

it's very puzzling for me as it's happened many times now; and always when you test it works, then I go back and try again and it works then. Really maddening.

Will check again. Separately what about that other issue I raised. is there a way to get site activity to post on my Facebook page automatically?

I also have another question that is unrelated to this so I'll make a new post about it.

I'm not sure what's causing that issue either.. I'm glad it usually works though, and seems to only sometimes have issues. I really don't know what extension is causing problems and not sure what else to check other than just keep an eye on it. If we can recreate, that will help.

As for posting automatically, that's not possible with JFBConnect. We have ways to post to a user's profile when they post a review or do multiple other types of activities. We currently don't have any features for posting to a Facebook Page though. We have some plans to add features like that in the future, but don't have a finalized timeline on when those features might be available.

Hope that helps,
Alex
