Yesterday I tried to update the JFB extensions. I tried once from the component tab and once from the update tab. Each time my site ended up going down. Do you have any idea why this is happening? Below if my JFB Extension Check. I was running Joomla! 2.5.8 but I just performed the Joomla! 2.5.9 update. This is my site www.unitedwaypeel.org. Apache version 2.2.23 PHP version 5.2.17 MySQL version 5.5.30-log Thanks!

Was only the front-end going down, or was the admin area as well? Most likely, the cause was that you updated the component only and not the modules and plugins. After you update the component, make sure you also re-install the modules or plugins that you are using. You can install them using the Joomla Installer or by going to the Joomla Update manager and using the Purge Cache -> Find Updates button. Then, install and JFBC modules that are out of date.

If, after updating everything, you're still having issues, go to the Global Configuration area of Joomla and set Error Reporting to maximum. Let us know what error messages appear when the site crashes.

Thanks,
Alex

Only the front-end goes down. I tried updating it in two different ways. Through method 1 I went in to JFBConnect under Components and clicked
NEW VERSION FOUND!
Click to Update.

The front-end went down.

I have also tried Method 2 which consisted of clicking the "Extension Manager updater" and approving the update of several plugins.

The front-end also went down. Is there a step I am missing? In the past either one of these techniques would have updated the component.

It's probably that you needed to do the combination of both. The 5.0 release is a big update, and just about everything in our component and module was touched in some way.

When you updated just the component, an 'older' v4.3 module was probably expecting some code from the component that no longer existed.
When you updated the modules, the 'new' modules were likely expecting to use some new code from the component, which once again, didn't exist yet, since it was on v4.3.

I'd recommend updating the main component. Then going to the Update Manager of Joomla, do a "Purge Cache" and then click "Refresh". Then, update anything from JFBConnect that has a new version. That will get everything up to v5.0 and should get the site moving.

That should get you going, but if not, let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi. I tried doing both updates but it happened again. I turned off the JFB module and the site came back. I turned on each of the modules one at a time and discovered that JFBCLogin is what is crashing the site. Should I just reinstall that module?

I downloaded the JFBConnect-5.0-Joomla25_20130220_unzip_first file. I unzipped it but can't see which one is JFBCLogin. Do I need to install com_jfbconnect_j2.5_v5.0.0? Thanks!

Trudi,
Thanks for the information. If it is actually the "JFBCLogin" module that's causing problems, then that would explain a lot. The JFBCLogin module was discontinued about a year ago. It was replaced by the "SCLogin" module, which did everything the older JFBCLogin module did, but with more features.

There hasn't been updates to the JFBCLogin module and it surely used some older functionality that is no longer present in JFBConnect v5.0.

I'd recommend:
* Disabling the JFBCLogin module
* Configuring and enabling the SCLogin module how you want it to work
* Uninstalling the JFBCLogin module entirely

I hope that helps, but if you have other questions, just let me know.

Thanks,
Alex
