Hi,

I have the impression that I have a lot of spam-user accounts.

Before I installed JFBConnect, i used to delete the spam users based on:

Clearly no real e-mail address
No real name
Never logged in
Never activated.

Now, I have the impression that people registered via the JFBConnect system don't have a real name or real e-mail address in the users database. Sometimes strange names ans e-mail adresses are activated other aren't ...

Can you help me out?

Danny

Danny,
We honestly haven't really heard of any spam user accounts being created through Facebook. Since user's have to create a Facebook account first, and Facebook vets those accounts already for duplicates, email activation, etc, a single person 'generally' shouldn't have more than a few accounts.

The best thing you can do to check the accounts created through JFBConnect is go to the User Map area of our extension. In there is a link to each persons Facebook profile. Check out some of the accounts you think are bogus and see if you still think that after seeing their profile.

Beyond that, not sure what else to do, but hopefully that gets you started. Should you find some oddities in profiles, let us know. We'd be happy to look into it more if there's anything more we could do in our registration process to validate users.. but I'm not sure what off-hand due to all of Facebook's checks that would have already been performed.

Thanks, perhaps I was not clear enough.

Next to the Facebook registration, the standard Joomla registration remains valid.
A normal/real user has a normal e-mail address and readable name.

Does Facebook registration has normal names and e-mail addresses or is the real info hidden. f.i. Is it likely that a user "ghju56" with e-mail address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. is registered trough Facebook? I have quite some similar registrations.

Thanks

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification. My guess is that those accounts aren't created by JFBConnect. The easiest way to check is to use the User Map area in JFBConnect and simply look that user up. If they aren't in there, they didn't create their account using Facebook.

Beyond that, I'd recommend checking out a lengthy forum post we made, How to handle spammy Joomla new user registrations . That was a response to a similar question and has a lot of suggestions on how to handle spammy registrations.

Check that out and let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks, and good luck,
Alex
