Topic-icon Facebook OG Title Tags

I am trying to get my site to show the page source title tags on FB when I paste a link there. They are Sobipro entries which I know isn't an officially supported extension, but the odd thing is that if I look at the source code for a Sobipro entry page the OG:title tag is what I want to appear on FB. For some reason it picks up either the default site description or the SEF menu item description. I can't get it to pull in the title from the page itself.

If I look at the page source in my browser for a particular entry it has the correct title for both the meta and the OG tags:
www.karaokeacrossamerica.com/karaoke-sho...-velvet-elvis-dallas

Velvet Elvis - Dallas

I can't figure out where FB is getting the title data when I do a debugger test or try actually pasting a link into FB. This is what I get for the OG title in the debugger:

og:title: You are at the best place on the web for karaoke! - KaraokeAcrossAmerica.com

That metadata "You are at the best place on the web for karaoke!" comes from the title I added to the link properties for my home page. (plus I have the global option set to add the site description to the end) That's the only place I have that but it shows on FB no matter what link I use from my site. If I remove it, the metadata becomes the typical Joomla menu structure title. If I put a test title in the OG config here:

option=com_jfbconnect&view=opengraph&task=settings

It immediately shows up in the debugger when I refresh. It is looking at my JFBC config. I just can't figure how/why the page source metadata is correct, but it still doesn't show up properly in FB. I'm at a loss here......:(

Thanks for any help!

Steve,
First off.. yup, we still haven't made an OG plugin for SobiPro yet. Got a little side-tracked with some changes for the upcoming v5.0 release that are delaying our SobiPro OG plugin, but that's first on our list of new plugins to create and hoping to do so in the next few weeks here.

Now, as to your questions..
ewwwwww.. The problem with the title is that you have another og attribute of og:url setting that's pointing to your home page. That's telling Facebook that *any* of your pages is really a copy of your home page, and to use the information from that page instead. Remove that tag! I'm assuming you set that in the Open Graph - Settings area for a default. Don't set a url default.

Hope that helps get you past that issue, but if not, or you have any other questions, just let us know. We'll keep you posted on SobiPro stuff.. and if you have anything else we can help you with related to SobiPro Open Graph / Facebook integration before then, now's the time to ask, since we'll be implementing that soon so it's already on our minds :)

Thanks,
Alex

Alex, it's all good on the plugin! I'm not sure what other features it will bring unless it's some of the uber-cool stuff we discussed off line! I don't think that is related to this current issue.

YES!! That was it! In my OG settings in JFBC I had the OG:url= parameter set! Thanks!

The Open Graph plugin will allow posting of actions, which definitely would be hard to do now. However, it will also give more flexibility over the description and image that are used for your listings. We of course hope that, even without an extension-specific plugin, JFBConnect is smart enough to get 'good' Open Graph description tags.. which it seems like that's the case for now.

I definitely still have your emails about the actions that you would like to post and will likely be getting in touch once we really get going on development for that plugin.

Glad to hear we found your current issue though, and should you need anything else, just let us know.

Thanks,
Alex
