Topic-icon How to send a message along with Facebook requests ?

Hello,
I just realized that Facebook requests sent by users from my website, arrive to the invited facebook user, as a notification signal in the top facebook toolbar.
but if the user don't read it, it will disappear and it will never show again, not even on the facebook sidebar requests region!
and this is not good as most, if not all of the invited users don't even look at this notification and ignore it.

So the question is, is there a way to send this request with a message, or as many FB application do, their requests appears on the sidebar and never go away unless the user turn them off!?

My problem is that I did everything possible to let this requests system work with Alphauserpoints so that I can bring more users to my site, but seems the requests sent by JFBConnect does not do the job that I thought of.

Unless I did something wrong that you can help me in setting it up.

sorry for the long message, but just want it to clear things up.
Thanks in advance :D

The notification should stay in the users 'inbox' notification area for 14 days *or* until the user has clicked it/accepted it. If the user clicks the notification icon (with the red indicator for a new message) the red icon will go away, but the message should stay there until it expires or is accepted.

Additionally, if the user goes to the "AppCenter" link in the bookmarks bar on the left, they should be a notification icon there of a pending request along with the message you configured in JFBConnect.

This is how Requests work. If there's something you're not seeing or think we're missing, definitely let us know and we can look into it more.

Thanks,
Alex

well after your reply,
I created a new FB user to test, and I just figured out that the FB account that i was testing on previously, had a problem in privacy settings maybe! m not sure but it is not receiving the request as it should!
now with that new FB user it seems that it is working well now! :)

As always, thanks for your support.
Always the best, thanks.

Just an issue that is not working yet! is that when a FB user click on the request received, it redirects him to the app reveal tab, instead of the destination URL that I've set up in JFBConnect (request setting) in joomla backend!

So hope you can guess, what I'm doing wrong here! :/

Glad to hear it worked with the other user. Not sure why it didn't with the first, but the behavior you describe above is the normal behavior and what most/all users should experience.

As for the redirection, what do you mean by the "App Reveal Tab"? Do you mean just the canvas page of your site (apps.facebook.com/)? If so, that's the normal initial behavior. After the user hits that page, they should be redirected to the destination you set in the request and, if the 'breakout canvas' setting is enabled, redirected out of the Facebook Canvas area entirely to your website.

Let me know what URL you have set for the redirection, where the user is actually going, and what the breakout-canvas setting is, and that will help narrow down the possible issue.

Also, please make sure you have an SSL certificate on your site, as that is required for the Request feature to properly redirect the user.

Thanks,
Alex

ok, I tried out all options, all are working I guess, but seems something is cached somewhere and not changing at all.

I was talking about the destination url that the user should be redirected to, after accepting a request.
I changed that many times but it is not changing at all.
when I checked the option "Redirect From Canvas" (breakout canvas) ... it redirect the user to the desired URL. when I UN-check this option it shows the old destination url that I've previously set up, in the facebook canvas page (apps.facebook.com/)

as for SSL, yes I have an SSL certificate installed and all is working as all options are working, but seems something, somewhere is cached. I cleared all my browser cache, and even joomla cache, but the old destination URL is still showing.

So dunno, does it take all that time for Facebook to propagate to the new settings?

Hmm.. Not sure why the redirection isn't working in the canvas. When the user is sent to the apps.facebook.com page, is it going to the root page for your app (like apps.facebook.com/your-site or is it going to some sub-directory, apps.facebook.com/your-site/some-path?

One thing to note is that when you change the settings for a request, it takes effect immediately, even for requests that have already been sent. So, if you uncheck that box or change the destination URL and a user accepts a request that was sent a few days ago, the new settings will be used.

So, you may want to create a new request and test a fresh invitation to see if that works how you'd expect.

Thanks,
Alex
