My jfbconnect config says it will upgrade me, but when I try I get:

Cannot pass parameter 2 by reference in (joomla root)/administrator/components/com_jfbconnect/liveupdate/classes/download.php on line 40

I have jfbconnect on a sister site, but no offer to upgrade me at all (although it shows me the redlighted newer version numbers).

Should I just resort to updating by hand, and where are the instructions to do that?

Haven't heard of either of those issues. If you're running Joomla 1.5 on any site, the auto-updater will not work. That's not a feature we could implement on Joomla 1.5, so that is likely the cause of your second issue.

To fix both, I'd definitely recommend just doing it 'by hand'. To do so, simply download the full package from the My Subscriptions area of our site and then install the main component just like normal. You don't need to uninstall or anything, it will upgrade everything automatically. Should be pretty darn easy.

If you run into issues or need more help, just let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Okay, just installing worked like a champ. And gosh, it turns out one of the sites IS Joomla 1.5. I thought they were both upgraded at the same time. Hmmm..... Anyway, very cool that jfbconnect installed without a hitch--and works--in both worlds.

Glad to hear it installed without a hitch.. if it didn't, we'd have a lot more support to deal with :) If you need anything else, let us know.

Finally, if you haven't already, please consider leaving a rating and review for JFBConnect, or our support, on the Joomla Extension Directory. It certainly isn't required, but is very appreciated:
