Where and how do you add the metatags to define the group name/identifier for Jomsocial Join Groups in open graph?

What identifier are you talking about? Do you mean when the post is made to Facebook, the title and description, or something else? If it's that, you should be able to add the {SCOpenGraph title=xyz} or description=xyz to the Description field of the Group itself and have that used. By default, I believe our Open Graph plugin will use the Group Name and Description automatically though.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks for the support, really appreciate it. Have tried your suggestions plus a few other ideas, but alas I cannot get the group name to display, despite the fact the link returns to the correct page.
Another observation is that when a user joins say 3 groups, each new posting to the timeline overwrites the previous.

A separate read-action issue is partly resolved insofar as I can get a basic message to display on "homepage" but not on timeline.
Challenged!

Julie,
Very glad to hear you got it going. I was trying to look into the issue some more when you posted your fix. Can you explain that a bit more? Are you editing the FB Object in the Open Graph section of your Facebook App on the developer site, or doing something else? I'm not sure I've seen a CSV upload option anywhere, so a bit curious as to what your doing so we can help others in the future if they run into the same issues.

Thanks,
Alex

The system I previously described worked fine for 3 groups then wouldn't work thereafter. Anyway, I noticed a quirk that one group I hadn't listed in the object title had a word in its title that matched a listed group and was displaying.
So to cut to the chase, I removed all group names in the object title and replaced with a common name, e.g. sitename. I then prefixed all my groups with the sitename and it worked a treat every time.'
I then went into the 'action settings' and changed it so that it didn't display the site name as a suffix. So I ended up with: user joined (sitename) (groupname)

This provides an advantage to site owners insofar as groups created by users rather than site moderators wouldn't be pushed to timelines.

Have 3 aggregations working and have submitted the App to Facebook using the format you recommend.
Observations:
Read-article does not display on timeline, but appears in "recent activity." The user has to issue a permission to display on timeline.
The nasty old login issue with mobiles has returned. Doesn't happen with loginradius which currently does not handle FB on my sites.
My suspicion is that the issue may resolve with Jomsocial 3.0 but it certainly is a pain right now. (Am using an image button for SC login rather than javascript)
Could resolve the issue by using loginradius to connect and create a button to "connect to your FB timeline"
Discussion would be helpful

Julie,
Thanks for all your feedback. I definitely agree with choosing what groups (or actions in general) are pushed to a users timeline. If users can create content that will then get pushed to other users activity stream, you can run into issues without a lot of moderation.

As for where the activity shows up, that's up to Facebook by default. All activity is entered into the users Activity Log, which is part of the Timeline. The default activity action is to "Let Facebook choose to show it". That will then push the event to the user's profile feed, their friends feed, and/or the ticker depending on social relevance of that action to the viewer. If the action, site, or app is popular among a group of friends, it's more likely to appear to those friends when any of them take that action.

Finally, I'm not sure what 'nasty old login issue with mobiles' you're mentioning is. I know we've worked through issues in the past, but refresh me on what's happening right now (what to do, what device has issues, etc). Also, what are you expecting in JomSocial 3.0? 2.8 just came out, and I haven't seen any clue as to a roadmap of what 3.0 will offer.

Thanks,
Alex
