Topic-icon Facebook Like from Plugin JFBCLike gives Access Denied in Facebook

I have upgraded to JFBConnect 4.3.3, not sure if this has anything to do with the problem and I have added a JFBCLike tag into my Kunena Forum 2.3.0 on Joomla 2.5.8.

I ran the AutoTune after upgrading and I have updated all the relevant opengraph content and custom plugins and they are published.
I deleted the app, entries from the Usermap and let JFBConnect recreate them when I logged in again, which it did OK.

I log in using Facebook to my website - post a comment and then click the Like button and add a comment, then click post to facebook.

When I look on Facebook, I see the posting in the timeline, and I also see it in comments, BUT it doesnt show the actual article/posting, instead it shows the header for the Website and I get the message Access Denied as you can see in the below screen print.

File Attachment:

I have now added this to my live site, so I would appreciate a prompt response please.

Thanks in advance

Rich,
Can you post a URL where we can see the actual Like/Comment button? Not sure what's wrong, but it's tough to diagnose from your description alone.

If your site is heavily restricted so the content can't be seen without logging in and instead redirects guest user's (such as Facebook's scraper tool), that is likely the cause. They are simply 'seeing' the page the guest user is redirecting too. We're working on a way of getting around that limitation, but Facebook doesn't provide any easy tools to do so.

Hope that helps. Once we see your site, we'll be able to diagnose further,
Alex

Alex, At present I have had to disable the like button in the Forum, because it is the live site and I dont want users to try to use something that isnt working. I have however run the Facebook Debugger whilst running it and I have sent the screen prints for this to you over private message.

If that doesnt help and you do need access to the like buttons in the forum, then please let me know and I will enable the like buttons for you. You already have an id to access the site, but if you need Admin access to view any of the settings in your component, please let me know?

Hi Alex,
Were the screen prints that I sent to the Private Message of any use to you, or do you need me to reenable the Like button on the Webpage/Forum.

If you do, I can do this tonight?

Rich,
Sorry for the delay. Unfortunately, what you're seeing in the post is what's going to happen. If you go to the forum page you sent me pictures of while *not* being logged into the site, the content on the page says "Access Denied" and not much more. Since Facebook uses a crawler (like Google) to scan your pages, that's what it sees too since it's not logged into your site when it crawls it.

Right now, there's not much that can be done about that unless you want to un-restrict your pages. We are looking into possible options to let the Facebook crawler 'see' into restricted content on your site, but don't have anything available to do such a thing yet and not sure when that will happen.

Hope that helps explain the issue, but if you have any other questions, just let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,
Thanks for the Update - That is very disappointing, but I suppose understandable.

Could I ask that you investigate Integration including Likes Comments etc with Kunena and Phoca Gallery extensions at some future point - These are two popular recommended extensions in Joomla and having the ability to feed between facebook and the website for these extensions, I feel would be a good addition to the product.

Thanks

Rich

Rich,
We're always looking into new ways to automatically add the Like/Comments to other extensions, and we're hoping to have a new plugin system for that this year (2013!). We haven't figured out how we'd do it, but the hard-coded method for K2 and Joomla content isn't very flexible, obviously. Our goal with the Open Graph plugins was to et more developer involvement for integration with other extensions and JFBConnect. Having a plugin system for adding the social widgets is along the same lines of a similar goal.

Hope that helps, even though I can't give any timelines on when something like that may be available.

Thanks,
Alex
