Hi, I have been working on setting up opengraph to post on a facebook users page when they view content on my website. I used the directions you gave and submitted it to facebook. Here is the response I got back, it sounds like we can't use JFBConnect opengraph to post article views anymore.

Your action should only be published when users perform real in-app actions and should not be triggered as users, browse, view, or otherwise look at content within your site. We no longer allow custom actions that publish stories as users consume content in your app. For more information, please see: developers.facebook.com/docs/submission-...raph/guidelines/#uex

Please help so that I know if this isn't possible anymore.

Greg,
The read action is definitely available and is being approved on many sites. You can't automatically post your own 'custom' actions when a page loads. However, if you use the Facebook built-in types, those definitely still work and we don't anticipate those will be removed anytime in the future.

When you created the "Read" action, you need to make sure you are using the Facebook 'built-in' action of "news.reads" and it should be taking place on the 'built-in' type of "article". You can check the actual action name by following the directions on our Finding Facebook Object and Action Names configuration guide page.

Hope that helps explain, but if you think you configured it correctly already, we'll gladly help investigate. Rest assured, the read action is still valid, but is really thoroughly checked by Facebook to make sure it hits all their requirements (since it can be easily abused).

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex, thanks for the quick response. I tried doing the "read" and "article" default but when it was created I could never click on them and edit them. I would get a a 500 error from facebook every time I would click on the newly created "read" action or "article" object. Any thoughts on that one?

Here is the error I get when I click to edit one of the default created items.

HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

Hrmm.. no, haven't heard of that one. Sounds like an issue with Facebook.

So, what did you create originally that was denied, but at least was auto-posting when you tested? You definitely need to use their built-in actions to do the auto-posts, so we'll need to get to the bottom of what's preventing you from creating those built-in types.

Just wanted to update this. Found out what was wrong, you need to make sure in your directions to tell them what test user you used or else it will be automagically declined each time. I went back and used the default "read" and "article" and filled in what user I used for testing and it got approved. Thanks for all your help.

Greg,
Awesome! Love to hear when actions are approved. It's our new shiny feature, so we like to hear good feedback and usage of them.

Should you have any other questions, comments, or feedback on how we can improve things, we'd love to hear them.

Finally, if you haven't already, please consider leaving a rating and review for JFBConnect, or our support, on the Joomla Extension Directory. It's certainly not required, but very appreciated:

Thanks,
Alex
