hello alex,
just upgraded to the latest 4.3 and tried the sc login module with faces option.
unfortunately when "show faces" is set to yes the login button (javascript) isn't showing up while the faces are displayed nicely. when turning faces off the login button is working fine ;)
when using textlink or imagelink the button is displayed but the faces aren't showing up at all

The faces won't show up when using a text or image link. Never thought about that before, but it's a completely separate way to show the button and there's no way to show the faces like that. We'll try to clarify that in the description text in a future release.

As for your issue.. hmm.. that's a strange one! We can recreate it, but there's nothing about v4.3 that's changed with the login button at all. I can't find any bug reports in Facebook about this, but will keep an eye out. I'd like to test the last version (v4.2) and see if the issue exists there, and if so, we'll submit a bug report to Facebook.

Hope that helps, but for now, the only advice is not to use the show-faces option.

Thanks,
Alex

good to know that you can recreate this issue - so it's not specific to our site ^^

while talking about faces option: it would be great to see an update on the friends module to show faces without beeing logged in to the joomla site (as this is working at the login module it should be possible there as well I guess)

Still seeing the wrong behavior with the show_faces option on the Login Button. I'll submit a bug-report about this tomorrow to Facebook.

As for the Friends module, yeah, we have a check in the module to see if the user is logged into Facebook. That check should probably be removed, but the reason it's there is because the Friends module will show absolutely nothing if the user isn't logged into Facebook *or* has no friends who have interacted with the site. We can't check for this 'emptyness' ahead of time, so instead, we only show Intro parameter if the user hasn't logged in.. that way, something should show.

Hope that makes sense. Again though, I can see revising this in the next release.. just hadn't had anyone point that out in a while. Feedback or thoughts are welcome.

Thanks,
Alex

hey alex,
I totally agree that when not beeing logged into facebook the friends box wouldn't make much sense as then there's no chance to check for facebook friends.
But that's not what I meant ;)
Right now you need to be logged into the JOOMLA site to see friends results at the module - not only facebook. So even if you're already logged into facebook you have to sign into the joomla site before you can see your friends. I think it would make sense for people browsing a joomla site (perhaps for the first time and haven't registered there) to show their already connected friends here - this could animate them to register ;)

We seem to agree together that it would be nice, but I don't think I made the underlying problem clear enough.

If they aren't logged into Facebook, nothing will show in the Friends area. The possibility of 'nothing' showing is a problem. So, we at some point in the past, added the check that the user is logged into Facebook on your site (which is something we can check for). We can't simply check to see if the user is logged into Facebook in general, if they haven't already approved your app.

So, we wanted to prevent the 'nothingness' from showing, but I'll agree, we went a bit over-zealous on that. My guess is that for v5.0, we'll remove the logged in check and always display the intro text. That way, you can say "See your FB friends on this site", and it may just be an empty area underneath. Suggestions welcome!

Thanks,
Alex
