Topic-icon Users inside Canvas Cannot Login/Create an account

Hi.
Having set up everything as instructed, published my app, added correct permissions, something weird is happening.
If a user loads my website (www.u-read.net) within canvas mode, they aren't automatically logged in, nor if they click the "Login with Facebook" button is an account created for them.
Any ideas why?
I've followed these instructions also but nothing: www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/docs/face...henticated-referrals
Help :)
Dave

First off, as the top of the implementation article you linked to mentions, Authenticated Referrals is being discontinued by Facebook. If you're app is 'new', Authenticated Referrals may not work for you at all. If your app was created and had AR's enabled before they announced they would not longer be supported, then the AR feature *should* work through February, but we've heard differing reports on whether it does work as expected.

As for your issue, you didn't link to your Canvas app, so I can't test there. On your live site, the Facebook button seems to work correctly and I checked for common configuration problems, and I couldn't see any. Can you post your Canvas URL so we can see what's happening there and, at least, help debug why the button won't work when clicked? AR's may not be possible, but the button should definitely work.

Thanks,
Alex

Morning Alex.
Thanks for the reply. So before we go too far down this road, am I right in saying that this method of getting people to visit your site is effectively defunct now? By this I mean that the feature to invite friends to join your website through facebook will be depreciated?

Anyhow, having done some testing this morning here's what I've found:
1. If I go to the canvas page (apps.facebook.com/u-read-blogs/) logged in as me on facebook, then the canvas logs me in
2. If I send a request to a facebook user, which they receive, and click on the "Try Now" button, the canvas loads but nothing else happens. They are not automatically logged in, and no account is created for them on my site.
3. If a user that doesn't have a U-Read account goes directly to the Canvas, and clicks login with Facebook, they get the Authentication dialog. If they click on "Log in to Facebook" on that authentication, they then see the "Post on your behalf" box. Clicking "Allow" Returns them to the Canvas, where they are logged in successfully, with the message "Facebook profile successfully connected"

Hope this all makes since, and gives you some sense of what's happening.
Thanks
Dave

The Requests feature in general still works. The *forced* registration *before* a user sees your content in a Canvas area has been discontinued by Facebook. Invitations/Requests will continue to work just fine, so a user can invite their friends to your site. The user that receives the request will have the option to login to your site.

All of the steps you mention sound correct. Users have the option to register on your site. If they are already registered, then JFBConnect can automatically log them in.

Hope that helps helps explain, but if you have other questions, just let me know!

Thanks,
Alex
