Hi,

I tried to override the open graph tag by adding (in my case) {SCOpenGraph description=Gewinne ein kostenloses S.W.A.T. BASIC Event am 06.10.2012 im Wert von 125,-- EUR und nimmt Deine Freunde vergünstigt mit.} to my article.
Unfortunately this is not used.
What did I do wrong?

Regards from germany

Fritz

Fritz,
That should be all you need to override I believe. Have you cleared the caches of your Joomla site? If you have caching enabled, the old tags may still be used until the caches are re-generated.

If that doesn't help, let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,

thanks for your fast reply.

Cleaning the caches did not help.

Please look at: www.swat-mission.com/index.php/2012-09-10-10-51-23
With facebook debug I can see that there are the information that are automatically generated by your software. The additional tag "{JFBCLike colorscheme=light}
{SCOpenGraph description=Gewinne ein kostenloses S.W.A.T. BASIC Event am 06.10.2012 im Wert von 125,-- EUR und nimmt Deine Freunde vergünstigt mit.}
{JFBCComments colorscheme=dark mobile=false}" is ignored.

Regards,

Fritz

EDIT: I had to change the structure of my site and now use the module instead of the plugin. So the above is no longer there. Anyway, the problem is as described in my post. :-)

Sorry, not yet. We're looking into this and you may have found a bug where the auto tags can't be overridden for some reason. We agree that that would be a bug if it's the case, but we need to do more investigation to narrow things down and come up with a fix.

Unfortunately, the only thing I suggest (for now) is to create your own tags on all articles and not use the automatic description functionality. Not an ideal fix, but a suggestion.

With the next release of JFBConnect, we're overhauling the Open Graph integration in a few really positive ways to make automatic insertion in a variety of components easier as well as some other cool features. That won't be available for another month or so though.

We'll keep you posted on what we find, but it may take a few days until I have any good news.

Thanks,
Alex

Maybe there is an missunderstanding: using the automatic function works, I can not use the tag in the plugin, I helped myself by not using the plugin but the module.
Thats OK for the moment.

So i will wait for the update. Will it be within my subsciption period (6 Months)?

I'm actually a little confused by how you worked around the issue. What plugin were you using vs what module?

As for a possible fix to allow overriding the automatic tags, we're planning to have that in the 5.0 release at the end of this year. No guarantees as things may change, but that's the current plan.

Thanks,
Alex

Workaround means that I first used the manual tags and -after that did not worked- switched to enabling the automated tagging (JFB Connect - Social - Open Graph) by -at the same time- deleting my manual tags an using the modules for displaying my JFBC Content.

Though it´s a bug I hope that means that -if the release comes after my subscription time- I will get it anyway?
Can you please confirm that?

Fritz,
We normally will post bug-fixes in the forum thread that they were found in if it's something easy to implement. We don't extend subscriptions based on bugs that a user may have found as we will (when possible) provide the code change for the current release. There are always some issues on some sites or that Facebook introduces and that requires us to make changes. We simply can't extend subscriptions indefinitely as user's find or run into problems. We just make the guarantee that we'll do everything we can to help fix the issue. If you run into an issue right before your subscription ends, we always help work through the problem even if the sub does expire before we find a solution.

However, your subscription looks to be valid through March. There are multiple more releases planned before then. I'm honestly still a bit confused about what actually worked and what wasn't working though. From the above, it sounds like:
* You manually added tags. Those were not translated into og:description, etc tags properly.
* You enabled automatic tags. Those didn't work either
* You removed the manual tags and the automatic tags started working.

Is that correct? When the tags weren't working, were you actually seeing the {SCOpenGraph ...} text on the page, or was it removed properly, but the og: meta tag wasn't inserted?

Once we get clarification and can understand the issue (and hopefully recreate), we'll gladly start looking into a solution.

Thanks,
Alex
