I know what you mean, and it's pretty easy to do. Basically, for your Canvas URL, you want to set the URL to a specific page within your site. That page should either:
* Have a new template created just for it. Then, you can set whatever modules you want to display *only* with that view. That way, you can have whatever view, links, or information you want just for that view. JFBConnect will keep the template set for that user in the Canvas view for as long as their navigating
* Simply direct the user to an article with the &tmpl=component parameter in the URL. With this, you can display a specific article that may welcome the user, have specific links to other parts of the site, or do anything you want full control over for the user. By adding the &tmpl=component into the URL, it makes it so the rest of the template (modules, etc) don't display, which helps really focus the user's attention directly on the article. For example:
demo.sourcecoast.com/index.php?option=co...&id=8&tmpl=component
The first idea, with a new template, obviously takes more work, but allows you to really craft new menus and navigation for your whole site while in the "Canvas View". You can even combine the two together so that the user goes to a very basic welcome page, just showing the component, but other pages they navigate to will use the alternate template.
Hope that helps. It's definitely possible to create a whole different look and feel for your site in a Canvas area, and JFBConnect should help you do everything you need. If you need more assistance, ideas, or have feedback though, just let us know!
Thanks,
Alex
