Hi Alex,

If a site has JFBConnect and the FB app is registered for www.xyz.com, then will the FBConnect button work if the website is embedded (via iframe) in another website with domain name (www.abc.com)?

Is there a way to ensure that the FB app works on all sites (with different domain names) with the original website embedded via an iframe?

I believe it should work in a iFrame without problem as long as the iFrame'd domain is the correct domain for the app. Page Tab and Canvas areas within Facebook are actually iFrames as well, and the functionality works just fine there. We've also seen iFrames's work on other sites, but it's not something we have as part of our standard test.

So.. it should work. But, we'd definitely recommend testing. If you run into issues, let us know and we can try to help.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks Alex. We faced some issue today with the iframes and we need to test it more.

It seems that you have released an update today. In Joomla, we got a message that says " Must be updated manually". What exactly does that mean?
Is there a particular process that we need to follow in order to update? It might be a dumb question but we don't want to screw our live site. :)

All that message means is that the Joomla auto-updater won't work. You need to either use the auto-updater available in the Overview area of JFBConnect's admin section, or download the newest release and install it like it was new. JFBConnect will automatically upgrade itself, and you won't loose your settings.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Alex!

Even after the update, the birthdate is getting wrongly imported. You can try registering in our website www.drishtant.com.
Choose the individual profile type. After registration, you'll see an option to 'Edit Profile' under 'Toolbox'.
Earlier both the birth date as well as Facebook profile link used to get imported properly. Nowadays that's not working for some unknown reason.

Can you please check?

Alex,

We have resolved this.
It was a small issue. We had selected 'No' in the Jomsocial registration field.

Now we have changed it to 'Yes' and the birthdate is getting imported.

I just registered using Individual and my birthdate was actually imported properly. Not sure why you're seeing different behavior there.

My Facebook Link was not imported at all. What field do you have setup for this?

Also, have you tested on our demo site to see if you can recreate the problem with your FB User profile there?

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,

We wanted to hide some of the fields during Jomsocial's default registration to keep the form short.
The fields that we had disabled in the registration (but were published) were not imported from Facebook.

Now the Facebook link and other fields are working properly.

One suggestion:
In your registration form, the 'Select Profile Type' option is somewhere in the middle. Some users start filling the registration form and then select the profile type. The page refreshes and the data entered is gone. So the 'Select profile type' option should be at the top (first option before anything else is entered).

We had done that but after today's update our custom code got overwritten. We'll get it back but it should be something you can have by default in the next update.

Thanks a lot!

Are you saying that some data can't be imported from Facebook if the field isn't setup a specific way in JomSocial? That doesn't sound right, and we'll gladly look into it more.

Good suggestion about the Profile Type selection. I've added that to our tracker to investigate re-arranging it's location.

Thanks,
Alex

Data from Facebook is only imported if the Jomsocial field is published and displayed during the registration process (need not be a required field).
If you publish a field but do not display in the Jomsocial registration process, then that field is not imported.

The ideal process should be that all the published fields in Jomsocial that are correctly mapped with Facebook fields should get imported whether displayed in the Jomsocial registration form or not. Otherwise the Jomsocial form looks too long and users don't want to fill it.
