Okay, basic question....

In the config guide it says "2) Log into Facebook with the account that you want to 'own' your Facebook application." and then says it has to be done via a profile not a page.

The website owner usually has a profile already. Does this mean I have to log in using their actual profile account to get started? It seems better to have them own their own application, but privacy would make them reluctant to do it this way.

What do you think?

A Facebook user-profile account must be used to create the Facebook application. That can be the developer of the site, the owner of the site, or anyone else. An app can also be created by one user and then have others added as owners (and removed) later on.

There's really no 'connection' from the user's standpoint between the application that they are logging into and the personal profile that created the app. Facebook just has a policy that *they* want a real user creating apps so that they know who is creating and owning things on their site. Your end user's won't see who the admin is and won't be able to get information about that admin.

Even big companies like Zynga and Coca-cola have their apps created by personal profile users (likely in the marketing team). But, again, you won't really know that.. only Facebook would know who created them.

Hope that helps explain,
Alex

Thanks for the quick answer! So I set it up on my profile with me as an admin, make the owners admins and then close my admin account at some point if I have to?

Kiwi,
Yes, that sounds like a good path. You don't need to 'close' your account, just remove yourself as administrator. But other than that, it's a good way to show the client the site and then at handoff, say "Oh yeah, you're the owner of the app now".

Hope that all helps,
Alex
