Topic-icon Facebook log in/out fine in IE - Misbehaves in other browsers

Hi there,

I have an intriguing situation on Joomla 2.5 with facebook log in and out functionality.

In IE it works as expected.

In FF, Safari, Chrome it does not - When you log in or out in these, the login box does not update to show the facebook avatar and looks like you're not logged in regardless, although sometimes it does show as logged in/out correctly when you reach other pages just not the actual page you log in or out on .

Strange that this is not the case in IE which works fine on all pages.

I'm using caching and all of the plugins appear to be in right order.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Best,

Mike

It's almost definitely a caching issue. In the System - Cache plugin, make sure you do *not* have "Enable Browser Caching" on. If so, that's definitely the cause as the browser is caching the logged out view. Then, after logging in, the browser will still used the cached (logged out) view instead of the new view from the site.

There are other plugins that can enable browser caching as well. No client side (browser) full-page caching should be enabled on any site that allows logins.

Hope that helps,
Alex

Thanks Alex!

Your comment, "There are other plugins that can enable browser caching as well" solved it for me.

For anyone else struggling with this I had a plugin called "System - Expires Headers" enabled that was enabling browser caching.

Thanks again Alex!

We had our first report about that exact plugin about 2 days ago. We're working on an update to Autotune to check if browser caching is enabled and report a warning if so.

Glad that got you going though, and if you run into anything else, just let us know!

Finally, if you haven't already, please consider leaving a rating and review on the Joomla Extension Directory for JFBConnect, or our support. It's certainly not required, but very appreciated!
