Topic-icon User language at registration

14 years 3 weeks ago #22835 by phkoech
I use JFBConnect on my website, and when a user register to my site using Facebook connect, everythings works well except for user language : new user created by the system has english language instead of french. I cannot understand why he decide to switch in english, because my website is in french language and user's Facebook profile is in french.
Any idea ?

Gerard,
Do you mean that their profile is imported in English. Or do you mean that after they register, your site's language is set to English so that all content is displayed in English?

I just registered (username 'sourcecoast') and everything was in French after I registered. I didn't see English anywhere, so if you can explain more, that would help.

Thanks,
Alex

The problem is that user's Frontend Language is set in english. You can see it in back-end user details (cf attachment).
On front-end, content is in french (there is only one language in my website) but as user language is english, there are some labels that are in english. For example : after you connect, the link at the top roght is "your account" and the text in the search field is "search" (instead of "rechercher").

Gerard,
We've tried to do a bit of testing, but haven't been able to recreate your problem. If the English language pack has been uninstalled from your site, the default language (whatever that is) shouldn't be used.

JFBConnect does work with the System - Language Filter plugin (part of Joomla), which will attempt to detect the language of the users browser. If detected *and* that language exists on your site, JFBConnect will set the new user's language to their browser language. It's meant to make things easier on the user by using their language by default. There is nothing hard-coded in JFBConnect to always use English at all.

If that doesn't seem to be the case for you, or if English isn't even available on your site, then I'd be unsure of the answer. Would it be possible to get admin access to your site to understand your configuration better?

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,
I gave you admin right so that you can check my settings. If you need the password, let my know via PM.

My site has english language but default is french.
I noticed that "System - Language Filter" plugin is not published. Do I have to publish it ?
If yes, I suppose I should set "Language Selection for new Visitors" to site language, to avoid switching in english. Is that right ?

The login/password you sent didn't work for me. Can you please verify and re-send?

As for the Language Switcher, yes, what you said for the setup sounds like what you'd want. We've done a lot of testing with multi-lingual sites, and the above configuration should work. However, there are a ton of different ways to configure multi-lingual setups, so definitely test with any changes you make to ensure no undesired effects happen.

Thanks,
Alex
