Topic-icon Problem importing data/registration with JomSocial

Hi,

I have Jfb plugin installed and enabled - so that people can share like/share any page on Facebook/Linkedin and Google. I also have 'JomSocial Connect' plugin, so that users can create profile using facebook. However, when a user tries to create a profile, he is logged out of Facbebook and although the account has been created in the backend (and user does not see it in frontend), additional data ('import profile status' and 'import profiel avatar') are not imported (as seen in the attached screengrab).

This problem is also mentioned on stackoverflow.com/questions/5455393/joms...rking-on-other-pages - It seems that this is caused by 2 APP ids being on the page. So, I am not sure what to do since I need to use both JFB and Facebook login using JomSocial?

Your prompt help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Vicky

Hello Vicky,
JFBConnect component has it's own TitleJomSocial Profile Plugin to allow users to connect with their FB account and have a JomSocial profile created.
you should consider disabling the 'JomSocial Connect' plugin you are using now, and only use the JFBC plugin.

Let us know if that helps.

Hi Mati,

I think using JomSocial's default plugin for registration is better way because you can ask for custom information during registration process whereas JFBConnect plugin uses is a simple form (with 4-5 filds on it)...am I right? If that is the case, we would definitely like to allow users to fill step by step forms as is the case with 'standard JomSocial registration process'.
Does your system/plugin allows that? If yes, please let me know step by step instructions as I am still a bit confused as how both your component/plugins work with JomSocial while capturing the same data as configured in JomSocial backend (for registration).
Thanks,
Vicky

Vicky,
No, you can't use the JomSocial registration flow with JFBConnect. They're completely separate and don't work together. Since you can import much of the user's information from Facebook into JomSocial, a multi-step flow wouldn't work on most sites simply because a lot of the information would be hidden, leaving empty or near-empty pages to fill out.

JFBConnect also offers the automatic registration flow which automatically creates the Joomla account, bypassing all forms. Our goal is to make the registration process as quick as possible, and a multi-step registration process is the complete opposite of that flow.

As for the fields you can show, with JFBConnect, you can add whatever fields you want from JomSocial to the registration process. They simply need to be marked as "Registered" and "Required" in JomSocial. Then, in JFBConnect's Profile area, simply set the "Show non-mapped required fields during registration". The upcoming 4.2 release will have a lot more flexibility as well regarding which fields can be shown with the following options:
* Show All, Required, No JomSocial fields during registration
* Prefill fields that are imported (so that if you show the field, the pre-filled value from Facebook will be shown, and editable by the user)
* Option to hide fields that are being imported from Facebook, so the user can't edit them.

Hope that helps, but if you have other questions, just let us know!
Alex
