Hi,
Running 4.1.2, Joomla 2.5.3.

I've had a site user report that on a Mac with Google Chrome the FB login button was not working. They sent me a screen shot, seems the FB dialogue box opens and throws and error. "An error occured. Please try later". I can't replicate the error in any browser (Chrome, Firefox or IE9) on a PC. They are a registered site user already, but their account is not linked. Their emails match up, I've got auto-match the emails turned on.

If there is any reason this error has occured would be great to have a fix.

Also, I notice there is quite a lot of lag in all three browsers I tested. I find I need to click the button 2-3 times to get an already linked account to login.

Try your site by going to it in both www.site.com and site.com (no-www). If one works, and the other doesn't, check your Facebook Application and make sure the Application Domain is set to just "site.com" (no http, no www). That is hopefully the problem and easy to fix.

As for the lag, not sure. There could be a few reasons. When you say you click the button 2-3 times, do you 'need' to click it 2-3 times, or are you just impatient? Mainly, if you click it once, and wait even 30 seconds, does it eventually work? That will help narrow down the type of issue it is. If you site has a lot of Javascript going on, that can slow things down. Feel free to send a link to your page and we can see if there's anything obvious that would cause it.

Thanks,
Alex

Facebook requires the site URL to start with http:// I didn't have a www but the site is working out of a sub-domain. monash.golden-key.org. Should I set the site URL as golden-key.org ??

Also I can't replicate this issue myself but have multiple end users with the same issue. I'll get them to try the new site URLs and see how it goes.

The lag, only seems to occur when I switch between browsers and have to re-log into facebook. If i wait long enough nothing happens, usually I see the browser loading but that doesn't happen on the first click. Sometimes gets it on the second after that I start over clicking. Maybe it's a lag due to facebook logging out of the old browser and into the new one, tends to not like being logged into 2 different browsers at the same time. Once you stick to a single browser the time is more realistic.

Ok, I've got my hands on one of the people's facebook accounts, and I can now replicate the error, yet my account works without issue. I am an admin of the Facebook application though so I might have some extra permissions enabled?? To test this I added the user as an application tester and now I can get the FB login to work. If the user is not logged into the site it doesn't work, but if they first login and then click connect the process works fine. When I removed the user as an app tester the error for FB login came back. any ideas?

Also in SCLogin the Logout button is tempromental. For users not connected the ancor is only a 1px line at the bottom (display is normal) and when user connected the ancor is normal size but clicking it doesn't always seem to work.

Your Facebook application should be setup as:
Site URL: golden-key.org/
Application Domain: golden-key.org

At first, from your description of working for you and not others, I would have said that you either have your Application in Sandbox mode or you had setup a white list of users that could access it. However, then I tried to register, and I was able to without issue.. as well as logout and back in again. So, it's not either of those.

So, I'm a bit unsure what's going on. With the FB user account you have, the login popup that comes up simply says "An error has occurred", correct? That usually indicates a FB application configuration issue, but that wouldn't be specific to only some users.

I also didn't see the lag you mention or the problem with the SCLogin's logout button after logging in with my Joomla credentials.

I did test with Chrome on a Mac, but I don't think that Windows would show much difference (I can try later though). I scoured the page's HTML for normal conflicts or other issues, and couldn't find anything. If you have any more information you can share, that'd be great. Otherwise, I'll test with Windows shortly, but I'm really not sure what the ultimate answer will be.

Oh yeah, if you never plan to use the Facebook App/Login features on the main domain, you can set the Site URL to use the full subdomained URL. Facebook has become very lax with it's requirements for the Site URL lately, as long as it's derived from the Domain you set. Never hurts to try both though....
