hi.
I just made a migration from 1.5.23 to 1.7. I have already migrate the JFB component. I have 2 questions:
First, how do I configure it NOT to show up on blog category pages?
Second. The comments module shows up ok, but none the previous (1,5) comments show up in the article pages- how can I solve this? thanks!

Idiel,
With 1.7, the URL structure of most articles has changed, especially if you have SEF URLs enabled. Facebook 'attaches' comments and Likes to the specific URL of the page that they occur on. So with different URLs, Facebook isn't able to associate the 'old' J1.5 pages with the 'new' 1.6/1.7 pages.

There's not much we can do about this unfortunately, as every component, including ones distributed with Joomla itself, have changes with 1.6+ that aren't possible to accomodate for within JFBConnect. The same problems will happen with rankings in search engines and other areas your site was linked from before.. those links may no longer work as they used too.

Hope that helps explain the situation, but if you have any other questions, just let us know,
Alex

Gee, that REALLY sucks! That means I lost all the comments! any ideas on a solution, even if its not an elegant one? like is it possible to manually redirect? I dont have many articles yet, so I could go with a "one by one" solution.

Idiel,
Yes, if you know what the 'old' URL was, you should be able to add the tag below to the bottom of the articles with the 'old' URL and the comments should appear.
{JFBCLike href=http://site.com/link-to-old-article}

Then (assuming that old URL doesn't exist anymore), you can use sh404SEF or the redirection tool in Joomla to redirect that old URL to the new URL. You'll want to do that so that when a user comments and it goes to their wall, the link back to your site will be valid.

We agree it's not optimal, and are happy that 1.6+ shouldn't be changing the URL's much anymore in the future. Again though, with the URL changes that are different per component on your site, Google and other search engines will have the same problem where content that once existed is no longer there.

Hope that helps, and good luck,
Alex

We agree. 1.6+ has a lot of benefits that we're excited about, and happy to see Joomla making more regular progress in general. We'll always do our best to make upgrading JFBConnect a simple process, but it's not always possible to make everything 'perfect'.

Should you need anything else, just let us know, and good luck!

Now I am wondering. In the 404sef list of 404 requests, I see lots of urls like this:

component/option,com_jfbconnect/return,L0N1ZW50b3MtSnV2ZW5pbGVzLw==/task,logout

what do these correspond to?

Those URLs are created when a user is logged in to determine where they should go when the logout. We're expecting to change the logout logic in 4.0 (later in August) to remove those, but for now and in general, we'd recommend that you set sh404SEF to 'skip' JFBConnect. We don't have any URLs that really need to be SEF, so it's not useful to have it enabled for JFBConnect.

Not sure why they'd be coming back as 404, but either way, they shouldn't be a big problem overall for the site.

Thanks,
Alex
