I am working on Joomla 1.6.3 and would like to upgrade to 1.6.5... but it seems I must go directly to 1.7, since at joomla.org I cannot get an upgrade 1.6.3->1.6.5...
Will JFBConnect 3.3.1 work on Joomla 1.7 or should I wait for a specific release from Source Coast?

Thanks.

Alexandre,
Joomla really recommends upgrading to 1.6.5 before going to 1.7 because the last 1.6.x release fixed a bug which could cause big problems when upgrading. It only affected a few sites, but you don't want to be one of them. Unfortunately, I can't find the upgrader from 1.6.3 to 1.6.5. You may want to try the 1.6.0->1.6.5 one though, since it should encompass all changes:
joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/frs/?ac...iew&release_id=15178

Either way, backup first, as always, before upgrading.

As for JFBConnect on 1.7, we've tested the last release (3.3.1) and just about everything was fine, and nothing should prevent you from upgrading. The upcoming 4.0 release has a lot more 1.7 testing, but I wouldn't say you need to wait on that. In general, we're planning to continue having 2 separate releases for a while: 1 for Joomla 1.5 and another for Joomla 1.6+ (1.7, 1.8, etc).

Hope that answers your questions, and if you decide to take the 1.7 plunge, please let us know if you run into any issues.

Thanks,
Alex

Thanks a lot for the tip... I did the 1.6.0->1.6.5 upgrade... why did I not think of this before?... I feel dummy

Joomla 1.7.0 will wait... My heart may not survive to 2 upgrades on the same day :D

Thanks a lot!

Agree with pausing. Just so you know, we had some issues when moving one of our sites even from 1.6.5 to 1.7, so again, we highly recommend backing up. The full instructions on how to move from 1.6.5 (or 1.6.x) to 1.7 are:
docs.joomla.org/Upgrade_1.6.5_to_1.7

Specifically, when we had issues, we had to follow the "Manual Update for 1.6.5" instructions, which weren't so pretty.

Finally, one thing I forgot to mention above, none of our Profile Plugins have been fully tested for 1.7 yet, and we don't recommend upgrading if you integrate with any of them. The reason is that JomSocial, Kunena, Agora, CB, and K2 don't have official releases out for 1.7 yet. We aren't supporting them until they support 1.7.

Good luck,
Alex

I am at the moment at Joomla 1.6.6 and did a upgrade this week to Joomla 1.7 and all went wrong. There is no straight upgrade from 1.6.6 to 1.7 so I feel quite sick about it. Luckily with Akeeba I could put everything back again but I don't feel thay are making life more easy now.

At the moment my subscription is at an end now but I will wait for the 4.0 edition and I am looking really forward to it allthough I am stuck at the moment with the 3.3RC1 hehehe.

On my experience:

- I upgraded from Joomla 1.6.6 to 1.7.0 manualy (docs.joomla.org/Upgrade_1.6.5_to_1.7#Man...pload.2FInstallation), since the "Quick Update" did not work

JFBConnect 3.4 is working fine on 1.7.0

Yeah, the 1.7 process wasn't as smooth as many were hoping. When it works right, it works great.. but it hasn't gone right for everyone, unfortunately.

As for JFBConnect, we fully support 1.6 and 1.7, so you shouldn't have any worries using it. Even 3.3RC1 had very few issues with 1.6 that I wouldn't urge you to upgrade to 3.3.0 or 3.4.0 just for compatibility reasons (there's plenty of great new features though).

3.4 just came out last week (haven't promoted it much yet), and has all the features of what we promised for 4.0, except the updated authentication that Facebook will be requiring later this year. The final 4.0 with the updated authentication should be out toward the end of this month.

Hope that helps explain, and good luck,
Alex
