These are two different URLs to the same article. It's the last one that's the official one, and I don't know how some readers manage to enter the site through the first one, but some do (this is not the only article for which it happens). Joomla understands that it's the same article, but JFBConnect does not, and therefore the comments are different on the two URLs.

- How can I stop readers from entering through the first type of URL? or...
- How can I fix this so that all the comments show up on both URLs?

Best regards

Unfortunately, there's very little we can do about this within JFBConnect. Both of those, as you can see, are valid URLs that render content. JFBConnect can't determine automatically which is valid and which is invalid as our extension would have no way of knowing right from wrong. This is a difficult issue with Joomla in general, and, specifically, Joomla 1.5. Things have improved in Joomla 2.5+, but there are still times when 2 URLs resolve to the same content.

With that said, here's some answers to your questions:

- How can I stop readers from entering through the first type of URL? or...

There are SEF extensions whose sole purpose is to do this sort of things. Extensions like sh404SEF will ensure that there is only one URL that should work for each bit of content and automatically redirect the duplicate URLs to the canonical/final version.

- How can I fix this so that all the comments show up on both URLs?

There isn't an automatic way to do this. Facebook comments work based on the URL itself. We do some processing on URLs to remove some common, unwanted, variables that can make URLs look different. In the cases above though, those are 2 valid URLs and JFBConnect wouldn't be able to correct for that. The only way you could fix it, for that specific K2 item, is to add the following into the article contents:
{SCOpenGraph url=http://www.thailandstidende.com/component/k2/item/2265-kreftsyk-nordmann-ma-betale-alt-selv
That will make any views of that article specify that the 'real' URL for Facebook purposes is the one specified. To implement that though you'd need to do it in every article on your site (if this is a widespread issue), which usually isn't feasible. It's also why SEF extensions for Joomla are pretty popular..

I hope that helps explain the situation, but if you have any other questions, just let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

Thank you Alex for the detailed answer.

I got no notification via email about your post, by the way. Maybe a problem with your system... just to let you know.

Best

Dag,
Glad we could help explain, even if there was no perfect solution.

As for the notification email, I can see that the notification mail was *not* sent to you. I'm not sure why that happened as it did go out to a few others that are monitoring the entire JFBConnect Joomla 1.5. Support board. We'll definitely look into what may have happened there.

Thanks,
Alex
