Topic-icon Timeline for backport?

Is there a timeline for the backport to 1.5?

I ask, because my subscription runs out in a couple weeks, and I'm in this for the 1.5 version only. Since this is the last 1.5 version you're going to release, extending my subscription doesn't make much sense, since I won't be getting anything for the extension, right?

Some guidance would be great. Thanks!

Christopher,
The plan is to have the J1.5 version out in early December. We're working through issues right now that have been uncovered in the J2.5 release and working on the v3.4.1 release. That release, we're hoping, will be available for J1.5 and J2.5.

As for benefits of extending your subscription, we'll be supporting the v4.3 release for quite a while. If there are issues that are uncovered, we will be making bug-fix releases and/or improvements as necessary and we've stated that will last through at least June of next year. So, you'd miss out on any bug-fixes or minor feature improvements. Beyond that, when your subscription expires, priority support in the forums and use of the Autotune configuration tool will go away. It's recommended to run Autotune every once in a while as Facebook adds new options and settings, and we keep Autotune up-to-date to make sure the settings are right for the version of JFBConnect you're using.

It's completely up to you if you feel those benefits are worth it. The returning user discount (~20%) is only available while youre subscription is still active though, so if you want to stay subscribed, it's best to do that before your subscription expires.

Best of luck with your site,
Alex

Thanks.

I've renewed and am looking forward to the 1.5 backport to bring my legacy sites into the goodness ;)

Glad to hear you decided to renew. We're excited about the J1.5 compatible release because we still use that version on this site! We're in the planning stages of a migration for early next year, but we'll definitely be using Open Graph Actions before we make that move.. when the new version is out.

The good news is that the J1.5 version should be pretty darn stable. There were a few issues that needed to be fixed in the J2.5 release, hence why the version is already 4.3.2. Those fixes will be immediately available in the first J1.5 release, which should help things out a bit.

The plan is definitely for next week now that J2.5 isn't causing too much support time anymore.

Best of luck,
Alex

Most excellent.

The new version of Model Insider is on schedule to be done first quarter of next year, so this will fit in perfectly, and give time for any integration work we need to do (to leverage the social graph actions across our self-developed components).

And yeah, since we've got such a stable platform and did a lot of work to trim a lot of cruft out of 1.5 to make it our custom platform, we're not in a huge hurry to upgrade. New sites, yes. Existing legacy sites, what's not broken doesn't necessarily need fixing.

We agree about the not broke, don't fix it statement. That's also why we're putting out one last release of JFBConnect for Joomla 1.5, there's just too many people that feel that way and we frankly feel that Open Graph Actions is important enough for the effort.

Anyways, keep an eye out for it towards the end of next week.. I'll try to post back here, but may forget :)

Best of luck,
Alex
