Topic-icon JFBConnect User Plugin not installed / status updates

We have a few ideas on how to get previous FBConnect users to have status updates work as well. We can add the same permission check into the Login module to where if you haven't given permission to the app, it will ask on login. However, that would mean that people who don't want to allow it will be pestered a bit.

The plan we have is to add another column to the usermap table to note whenever a user has been asked for permission. Once they've been asked, regardless of they're choice, they won't be automatically asked again.

In addition to this, we'll be creating a module which will display permissions to users to allow them to opt-in or out of permissions that you'd want on your site.

Love to hear anyone's thoughts on this.

Only one comment... well, question actually. When can you have it done? <!-- s;-) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_wink.gif" alt=";-)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;-) -->

not a big fan of this. when users delete a stream message from facebook, they have the option to block your application from pushing any further updates to FB. however, if they then come back to my site any want to do the sort of stuff that normally auto-publishes to the FB stream, they should at least have the option to allow that again. so my favorite by far is to always ask if we don't have the permission. if they really hate it, they'll probably just update their status on the FB site itself - no problem :)

Going to create a new topic about how to get status updates permissions from users, since not everyone will read here.

Created. Please (re)post your comments there:

Hi,

I just installed JFBConnect and have a few questions (screenshots attached)

1. I activated the following two plugins:

* Authentication - JFBConnect Facebook
*User - JFBConnect User

I am not sure if the the are correctly activated because I am getting the “x” after the JFBConnect User Plugin

Finally, I am using JomSocial and don’t see the Facebook connect icon or link. Does this automagically show up or do I need to add it somehow. Kindly explain the last step in any and what to look for.

Regards,
Paul

FBConnect User Plugin

Once all steps before this are complete, you must enable the system plugins that were installed with JFBConnect. Go to the "Extensions->Plugins" area of your site, and enable the following two plugins:

* Authentication - JFBConnect Facebook
* User - JFBConnect User

If you hover over the green checks and red 'x' they will tell you why they are there. The reason the red X is there is because the ordering of your User plugins is incorrect. The Joomla plugin must have a higher order than the JFBConnect one.

As for a Login button, you'll need to install the JFBConnect Login Module and configure it to display where you want. Also, ensure that JomSocial's Facebook integration is off.
