Facebook have updated their API and now neither browser works with FBConnect. The product appears to be broken now! The facebook connect icon no longer appears. Please help! BestEnemies.tv

I have found that by modifying the JS Compatibity Flag in my Rocketheme template I can get it to work in Firefox Only. Is there a way to get it work in IE? Surely this image could be loaded without Java? Or Mootools (as per Joomla Spec) should be used?

The image cannot be loaded with Mootools. These use FB API calls which are required by Facebook to be used where it loads the image and then also controls the login pop-up to ensure security (so that a website owner cannot steal a users login details. Facebook has many rules such as these they we are not allowed to even try to get around.

As for it working in FF but not IE, this is usually caused by other Javascript on the page conflicting with the FB API. As you mention, the template your using seems to have issues and a compatibility mode. Can you try reverting (temporarily) to the default Khepri theme to see if JFBConnect functions in IE. If so, I think you'll have found the issue.

You had better look at the facebook developers forums. There are hundred of developers with this problem and some possible solutions too. I replaced the RT Template with JA Purity and still no button. I have also removed all the modules and all the plugins. Still doesn't work. It turns out this is a known problem with the Facebook API. I have live sites running your product. None of them work in the last 48 hours. If the product does not work in IE then what can we do ? We will have to find a solution one way or the other.....

We do monitor the FB API forums, but if there's a specific thread that you think pertains to how we're using the API and what may be causing your problem, by all means share it.

Our Joomla Facebook Connect demo site continues to work fine with IE for us for multiple versions from multiple computers. Please test yourself and let us know if it doesn't for you. Additionally, I would continue to recommend trying a much less 'flashy' theme over the JA or RT ones and try the default Rhuk template (I incorrectly said Khepri below which is the admin template). That way, you can discount your theme and we can investigate different possible causes.

The JFBConnect app is intentionally including an older version of the API as there have been versions that have caused severe issues. This version we've tested thoroughly with our application and feature requirements and have found it to be a good match. While we do plan to upgrade the included API in an upcoming revision, we don't want to do it willy-nilly. The API I'm speaking of here is the PHP library included. That is separate from the Javascript API which Facebook updates regularly (and does cause stability issues with in the process).

I have found the problem. I use IETab (a firefox plugin to test IE). It is the culprit. Your demo site doesn't work in it either!
