Hey need some help installing JFBconnect onto a host gator server.

Using the standard methog of uploading the tar.gz file I get the following error

"JFile::read: Unable to open file: 'C:\xampp\htdocs\hunter\tmp/gzip4ee3124e242ae' Unable to read archive"

Can you pelase assist? Is there any reason why your using a tar.gz file instead of a .zip shich appears to work better on both linux & windows platforms?

Thanks in advance

We chose tar.gz a while ago for various reasons, but yes, it can cause some issues on Windows platforms, though it shouldn't as windows hosts should have the tar and gzip programs available to them.

The first, and easiest thing to try, is to un-tar the package file to your local computer. You'll see all the directories of JFBConnect contained within. Then, simply re-zip it by highlighting all the files and folders, right-clicking, and going to "Compress". That will create a new zip file for you. Try to install that.

If that doesn't work, let us know. We are evaluating a move from tar.gz to zip for upcoming releases, but haven't made a decision yet.

Hope that helps!

Now, configure the JFBConnect component to operate how you want it to, and ensure that your Facebook Application, API and secret keys are valid.

Once setup correctly, enable the JFBConnect Authentication, JFBConnect User and JFBCSystem plugins and configure the Login module to suit your needs.

I was hopeing to avoid haveing to install each module individually in a maunual proccess, esp for a paid product.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Our best immediate suggestion is to install a tarring program onto your server, as this will likely be an issue you'll run into with other extensions at some point as well.

However, we have a build script which puts everything together, and are in the process of updating it to support packaging in a zip format. Like I mentioned, we're evaluating (and likely) moving to .zip for the 4.1 release, coming out later this month. If the changes are simple enough, we'll repackage 4.0.3 and send it to you. That may take a day or so though, unfortunately, as it's a work in progress.

Hope that answer helps, and we'll get you fixed up soon.

If you would be able to re package it that wouldbe great!

Unfortunalty i am not able to change anything server side as it is on a hosting server through hostgator.com. Im acutlaly suprised they are using a windows environement geiven that it's a WHM/Cpanel setup.

If you are able to repackage it and the plugins that would be perfect! (probably also reuce some of thses silly windows support issues) I am using your product for a Scout website that we are re launchin in the new year so im running out of time to find something that will intergrate it with Facebook.

David,
I moved the zip investigation up in our priorities and will be looking into it/implementing it tomorrow. I should be able to email you the zip files then.

So you know, I just extended your subscription until the end of June (instead of the 10th, like it was). Not being able to use something you bought is never fun; losing time on a subscription is even less so.

Sorry for the troubles, but we should be able to get you going soon.

Thanks,
Alex

David,
I just sent you an email with the JFBConnect zip files for the 4.0.3 version re-zipped, which should work on your Windows system. We did some testing, but it certainly wasn't exhaustive. Hopefully, you won't have any installation issues, or configuration issues thereafter, but if you do, just let us know.

So far, we are planning to use the zip format for all future releases, but will be testing the 4.1 release fully before we commit to that decision.

Good luck, and thanks for your patience,
Alex
