Hi!
I purchased JFBConnect and I'm very pleased with it so far. I have some trouble, but found help by searching forum. Also, I found topics about user sync across more joomla sites. I noticed that developer said that he tested several and that they are working fine (it was in post where user asked about some sync plugin that was not working and changing plugin order sorted things out).
Since for my site I need to sync user database across 4 (and possibly more) sites, I was wondering can you recommend me some good extensions that you know that's working with JFBC? I know there is mentions in previous posts about this topic, but as you know, these kind of thing get outdated really fast so I wanted some fresh information. I reviewed few myself but I cannot test them in fully because I'm not that good at JFBC and if it's not working I cannot tell if it is extension fault or mine.

Thank you for your help,

Bojan

Bojan,
We don't do active testing with user syncing plugins, so I can't make any guarantees as to what 'currently' works or doesn't. For usersyncing in general, we'd recommend jFusion. It seems to be the most popular and well supported extension for doing what you're looking for. In the past, we've helped users overcome most, if not all, issues they've run into while trying to use jFusion... in honesty though, we haven't had a jFusion question in about 6 months, that I can remember.

In general though, JFBConnect creates 100% standard Joomla users, which should be able to be synced to other Joomla sites. However, please note:
1) This would sync just the Joomla user (their J! username and password), not necessarily their FB connect information for logging in that way on other sites.
2) You should be able to easily copy the FB/Joomla usermap stuff between sites, but jFusion (or others) likely won't do this automatically. It's a pretty easy SQL query to do so, and may be able to be inserted into a plugin for jFusion or something similar.
3) Even if the FB/Joomla usermapping information is copied, each site that Joomla is run on will need it's own FB app/secret key (if they're on different domains, at least). So, when the user first logs into a different site than the initial one they did, they'll need to approve the 'new' FB application. The logging in should be normal after that. This is not the case if the other Joomla sites are all in sub-directories or sub-domains of the original site.

Hope that helps explain. It will be complex, but it should all be do-able.

Alex

Hi Alex,

Thank you very much for useful information. I didn't even consider JFusion since I thought it's software for user sync with other softwares, not joomla with joomla. I will definitely try that. Since this will be more sites under one domain, I think if I enable feature that connects current joomla user with FB via email, it shouldn't be a problem for users to do authentication twice or more. It's expected that most of users will use just one site, so it's not problem at all.

Thank again and keep up the good work!

No problem for the help, it's what we do. Pretty sure JFusion has great tools for syncing across multiple Joomla sites, but could be wrong ;)

As for the other things you mention (one domain, auto link users), sounds like you got it all figured out. You shouldn't run into too many problems, I'd guess.. but, if you do, you know where to find us!

Finally, please consider leaving a rating and review on the Joomla Extension Directory for JFBConnect, or our support. It's certainly not required, but very appreciated!

Good luck,

Actually, forgot to mention one other final thing... On sourcecoast.com, we actually run multiple Joomla sites (for many reasons), but it may pertain to you how we do it. For our JFBC Demo site (sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/demo), that's it's own Joomla installation. When a user logs into that site (with Facebook), they approve the FB app and create an account. While the user isn't automatically created on 'this' site, if they later come to this site (to purchase for instance), if they hit the Login w/ FB button, their account is automatically created for them. That's because we have the "Facebook User Only" setting enabled on this site.. so, unless you need the accounts automatically created across all sites instantaneously, you could almost have the 'feeling' that they are by using the Facebook User Only option.

Hope that makes sense and possibly helps give some ideas!

Hi,

Actually I already thought of that. I will see if clients want to save old site's user database. If not, I think I will go with facebook only and solve it that way. Thanks for the idea!
