I get this error on all of my Joomla sites: ERROR: Could not install the JFBConnect Facebook Authentication Plugin. Please install manually. I tried to manually install but still cannot "publish" the plugin because the plugin won't be visable in the joomla plugin manager. Can you help?

Are you using a Windows server, or Linux? We've never heard of this problem, but planned for it a little by showing that error at least.

To manually install, just to make sure you're doing it properly, you want to unzip the main com_jfbconnect tar.gz file. In the /admin/packages folder, you can find the zip file for the authentication plugin. You should use the Joomla installer to install this file. You should not just copy the files to the /plugins/authentication folder.

Once installed that way, it should show up in the Plugin manager.

Hope that helps, but if you still have issues, just let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Hello Alex, I tried installing the authentication tar and it says "install plugin error." The JFBconnect component page has the small little yellow exclamation mark that states "plugin is installed" but it still does not show up under the Joomla Plugins. I can publish all the other plugins needed except for that specific plugin.

At this point, it may be best to provide you with my login/password. Is this okay?

Thank you for your quick response.

Sean,
Feel free to send the admin credentials, and we'll take a look. However, the following are things we'll be checking, if you want to look first:
1) In the Install/Uninstall area, can you see the JFBConnect Authentication plugin? If not, it wasn't installed properly (we already know this, but good to check what Joomla 'thinks').
2) If not, check the /plugins/authentication directory for jfbconnectauth.php and .xml files. If there, delete them. If they were copied there manually (or FTPd), that will prevent the Joomla installer for properly installing (overwriting) the files that are there.
3) Check the permissions of the /plugins and the /plugins/authentication directories.
4) Try to re-install using the Joomla installer and see what happens.

Hope that helps narrow things down, but again, we'll do what we can if necessary. Through the Joomla admin though, it's not always possible to remove or re-permission files as necessary, just so you know.

Thanks,
Alex

Hello Alex, I followed your directions and I still get "install plugin error" in the joomla extension manager install.

Where can I email my credentials? I wish to avoid pasting them on this forum.

Thanks,

- Sean
