No clue why the social buttons placement would affect the comments. We can gladly look into it, should you change your mind.. for now though, I'd recommend getting your site setup as it looks like your just getting going. Changing things like template, components, or plugins could all have an effect, so it's best to diagnose the problem once things settle a bit and you're more confident that the positioning would be a problem.
