We use a content plugin to insert those buttons. Basically, Joomla/K2 hands the plugin the contents of the article (introtext/fulltext) and we can only manipulate what's handed to us. So, we either add the buttons to the top or bottom of the text, but it's still part of that text. There's no way for us to manipulate anything outside of the text, or place the buttons somewhere else.
We do put a div with a class of "scsocialbuttons" around the block of buttons. That'd be our best suggestion of how to change the behavior, placement, or style of those buttons. We supply some simple CSS to control the looks of these in the /components/com_jfbconnect/assets/jfbconnect.css file.
