In short: Absolutely, we plan to continue developing JFBConnect for both JomSocial, Community Builder, and those sites that aren't using any community components.
In (much) longer form:
We started development on this component in January and have made great progress. We have no intention of throwing it away because (some) of the features are being integrated into JomSocial. The component we built allows for additional modules to be added such as the JFBCInvite and the Comments module. We plan to continue developing these add-ons, assisting 3rd party developers in creating their own add-ons, as well as integrating more features into the 'core' of JFBConnect.
Finally, Facebook integration is a development teams' work. While great for the basic features, we don't expect the new JomSocial Facebook integration to provide all the features that we already have available. Our feeling (and this has been lightly discussed with the JomSocial devs) is that they'll take care of 'basic' integration for importing profile and user data, but JFBConnect will be an upgrade to allow for tighter integration. Let the JomSocial and Community Builder teams focus on the 'community' within your site, and we'll take care of the community between your site and Facebook.
We have quite a few feature additions upcoming, we just overhauled the JFBCInvite module (
Check it out!
), and are about to start a marketing push to raise awareness and get more developers. The future looks bright for Facebook on your Joomla site!
