hello,
since yesterday my rich wall post after login / registration has changed.
usually it showed title name and description, now it only shows the url 2 times which really looks bad.
I changed nothing at my side and also nothing at the app... ???

We just tested on our demo site (www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/demo), and didn't see this behavior. Please try and let us know if you do, as that site does the post on login (this site only does it on registration). That will help determine if there's a more widespread issue, or if it's site-specific.

As to other things to check:
1) The registration/login post settings. Even if working before, it could have 'just worked, but been incorrect'. Make sure the Image link is a valid image and one that can be reached without logging into the site or any redirects. Feel free to post a link to it here.
2) Check the Open Graph tags on the page that you are using for the URL. If it has it's own og:image tag set, make sure that it works like #1 above. While this image shouldn't be used since we're specifying our own, if it's problematic, it may interfere.

Let us know how that goes, and we'll try to come up with more solutions if it doesn't help.

thanks alex,
problem is not the message itself or the image - both are shown correctly.
the part in the middle of the post changed (site informations). in the past there was shown title and description - now there are the url's shown - your demo page works correctly... so it's either an joomla or facebook app misconfiguration I think
sent you pm ;-)

Alex,
I got your PM, and just tried the site. I see what you're saying. Basically, it's not double posting the URL, but it's missing the information about the page.

The reason this is occurring is because your home page is redirecting to the login page for guests. Since the home page is what you're telling Facebook to post as your URL, and since Facebook can't 'see' this page, they have no information that they can show on that page. In other words, normally, the Open Graph tags are what describe your page, but since they can't see the page, they can't retrieve the Open Graph tags or even 'guess' what's on the page.

There's a few options:
1) Make your home page not redirect
2) Make a separate "Facebook Post" landing page which describes the site to Facebook users, but doesn't perform any redirects. On this page, it can be very crafted to Facebook users and you can specify the specific Open Graph tags for that page.

Hope that helps, and sorry for the delay in getting in to find the problem!

hi alex,
thanks for your informations.
I removed the rediect and set the registerpage as default directly in joomla menu. so there's no forwarding anymore but it's still not working.
curious: I also have a sub page for testing, which is exactly the same - also with redirect.... and guess: this is working...! :D
so there has to be another issue which I haven't found out right now...
if you have some more ideas please let me know ;-)

I knew I missed something in my post! Facebook only scans a page once every 24-72 hours, so even if you removed the redirect, the missing page will be in their system for a little bit. You can use the linter below to see what Facebook sees (and will post to a users wall) when they do scan the page:
developers.facebook.com/tools/lint

Also, while not guaranteed, we've noticed that when you lint a page, it updates their cache to remove the 1-3 day wait time for a refresh.

Hope that helps!

*shout* aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa */shout end*
that was definetely a big part of the problem - because all my changes the last hours did nothing new to facebook..
however - after lint it's getting better - but it looks as inside of jomsocial is a problem with the title. only the "real" index page gives full meta informations by default. So now I installed a little meta tag plugin for joomla which shows the needed informations and then it's working...
big thanks for the "hint with the lint" :D

Yeah, will use a 'my bad' on that. I started the post above with the intent of talking about the Linter, but forgot by the time I was done.

The Open Graph tags should work on any interior page to describe your site. I'd recommend just setting some defaults for Title/Description in the Open Graph area which should work for any page on your site. You shouldn't need a separate meta tag plugin, but if it works, I'm not going to argue.

As always, good luck, and keep us posted!
