Error on update was created by moovedk
Hi,
Thank you for the great work making JFBConnect! :)

I'm trying to update the component, com_jfbconnect_j1.5 from v. 3.1.2 to v. 3.2.1.
But when i try to install i get the error:
JFolder::create: Could not create directory
JInstaller::install: Failed to create directory"...xxxx/web/content/administrator/components/com_jfbconnect/views/social"

After i have looked in the forums after an solution i have changed the permissions for the existing components/com_jfbconnect to 775 as they were 755
But still no luck in getting this to work :/

Can you please help me?
Thanks :)

Not sure why that would be happening. Have you tried installing using FTP mode? You can do this by enabling FTP in the Global Configuration area.. then, when you install, you can set your FTP username/password, and the upload and file creation is done through FTP instead of through Apache, and you may have better luck with that.

Other than that, you can try simply adding the /com_jfbconnect/social folder yourself, and mark the permissions the same as you mention. That may bypass the issue entirely.

I'm not sure why this is occurring, in all honesty. But we'll help you get to the bottom of it!

Hi Alex
Thank you for your response, I'm glad you will help :)
Nothing happens when i create the com_jfbconnect/views/social folder.. the same error appears.

I've tried to enable the FTP mode, and got it working, but got the notice:
Could not make configuration.php writable

After that, when i try to install the component i get these errors:

• JFTP::mkdir: Bad response
• JFTP::mkdir: Bad response
• Unable to create destination

In my Help -> System info the PHP Settings says File Uploads: On
And all Directory Permissions are Writable
And PHP is Version 5.2.13 on Linux

So this is a little weird.

The fact that Joomla can't change the permissions on the configuration.php file, it seems like there's simply a system user configuration problem on your site. I'd check with your hosting provider and make sure that not only are the permissions correct for the files/directories on your site, but that they are owned by the proper (usually Apache) user.

Hope this helps, keep us posted, and good luck!

Got it working!!
It turns out I only changed the permissions on the component/ folder and not the subfolders. So it was not possible for Joomla to delete and create files / folders.
After it was changed I tried to install the component again and everything works. Great! :)
All this permission-mishmash has happend after I moved the site to another server.. so that's where you have to be careful.

Thanks for the support Alex :)

Very, very happy to hear it. Permissions issues are the least favorite thing we like to diagnose, because every host is different and it can be a nightmare getting our heads around what's wrong.

As always, if you continue to use JFBConnect, please consider leaving a rating and review on the JED:
extensions.joomla.org/extensions/social-...ook-integration/7215

Best of luck to you, and should you run into any other issues, just let us know!
