Hi Alex,

Now that my resize issue is out of the way. (Thanks again).

Do you have any thoughts as to how I can use the automated likes and comments feature but specify domain.com/whtatever all the time as currently it's showing both domain.com/whatever and sub.domain.com/whatever.

Parts of the site are being replicated inside of facebook as an application which is the reason for the subdomain thing.

I could temporarily set the og:url to the main site but that would defeat the purpose. On my site I could also do these manually but in the future with larger sites this would become an issue.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Rich

Rich, of course we have a suggestion.. and it should be pretty simple.

In the /plugins/content/jfbccontent.php file, at line 192 is where we set the URL for the Like/Comment. Change that to:
$url = 'http://yourdomain.com' . $url;

Check the output in the HTML to make sure it's the right URL, and you should be good to go!

Finally, we know you've been a long-time subscriber and we really, really appreciate that. If you haven't already, we'd love it if you'd consider leaving a review of your experiences with JFBConnect on the JED:
extensions.joomla.org/extensions/social-...ook-integration/7215

Thanks again, and hope this helps!

As for the Shizat can you tell I'm an American Living in Aus? LOL

Anyway....Success...!

So this is pretty cool and opens up tons of possibilities for Joomla users worldwide IMNSHO!

Here's the basic premise...

You have your normal Joomla site. Create a subdirectory that points to the main site but uses a different template and menu to show whatever parts of your site. Much like a mobile version, but this is a facebook version. With the help on the mods you guys have provided my blog and some other pages are now handled in Joomla but shown in facebook as an application.

I have some cleaning up to do but that's just some css issues.

Normal Joomla Site: www.engageyourdivers.com
Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/engageyourdivers

Cheers,

Rich

Rich,
That's awesome! Really really cool stuff there! It's always great to see when users take JFBConnect and do things we never expected it to do, and never planned for it to do.

Our Facebook page is... lacking.. to say the least. It's on our goal list to actually make it a more viable landing page for our homepage and/or JFBConnect. If you don't mind, I may get in touch with you about some specifics of how you've done the above. Mainly, with the subdirectory, is that a whole separate Joomla site that shares the main database, or is there something different going on to use a different template.

Having this ability to create a Facebook Page easily would obviously be a good interest/selling point, so the mods that we've given you (which I'd have to go over, don't recall them all right now), are something we may look to integrate into a future version of JFBConnect.. that way, you don't have make changes every time you update as well. I think we could also (would have to see) make a template switcher depending on who's loading the page - Facebook vs live site, and some other things so it wouldn't be so complex.

Anyways, thanks again for your feedback, and congrats on the awesome job!

Hi Alex,

You're more than welcome to get in touch...

I'm a big believer in facebook for small businesses.as some of my clients can directly attribute 15-20% of sales from facebook referrals, which is why I am making such an effort to blur the lines between a website and facebook in BOTH directions.

It's all one site, no sharing of the database. The sub directory points to the main site but then a component takes over and does the job from there for the redirect rules.

The mods you've given me to make this possible are:

The Javascript resize command to go into the system plug in. This ensures the site is resized above 800px (H)
The Page Like and Comment URL modification so that the URL will always point to the main domain.

I'd be glad to help any way that I can.

Next step is to implement this on a site that uses JFBC login to do reservations in conjunction with JomSocial and Event Registration Pro or DTH Register component all within the iframe. I may need you guys on speed dial!

Cheers,

Rich

PS. Originally from NY and am a Giants fan but don't hold that against me!

We may get in touch :) We've been discussing internally since you posted, and 'easy FB page creation' may be our flagship feature for the 3.4 release :) 3.3 is coming soon and will mainly be a small bug-fix release and make our version numbers the same for the J1.5 and J1.6 versions, so we'd expect 3.4 in June/July timeframe.

Thanks again, we really appreciate the feedback!

Rich,
Just wanted to update this thread. We're looking very much into integrating easy Page features into JFBConnect.. in the process, Facebook (on Tuesday) announced that all Canvas pages, used to show a Joomla site in a Facebook Page, will be required to have an SSL certificate starting October 1st. SSL certs range from free to a couple hundred dollars depending on where you want to get it, and how much you're willing to work to install it yourself.

Either way, just wanted to give you a super early heads up of this coming requirement. For more information, see:
developers.facebook.com/blog/post/497

Best of luck, and hope everything's going well for you!
Alex
