Hello,
As configured right now, without Facebook Connect, a new user clicks on the "Join Now" (JomSocial) button and is taken to a "create your profiletype" (JoomlaXi ProfileType) screen with the profiletype options. The user selects the appropriate profiletype, clicks next, and is taken to "register new user" page where they submit name, email, password & agree to terms & conditions. After clicking next, the user fills out required fields specific to the profiletype they selected (JS/JSPT).

By implementing the Facebook Connect, how will that affect this process? I am most interested in using the FB Connect to have user activity on the site show on their Facebook wall. Would it be best to have Facebook connect as a post-registration option? Is this possible? If so, can the user FB Connect without affecting the existing user profile info on the site? What would you recommend?

JFBConnect is going to greatly affect that process, and probably not in the way you want it to. Currently, we don't have built in support for JSPT, so we won't be offering the user a group to join, and they'll simply be made part of the default.

Adding support for JomSocial's built in groups is a priority for an upcoming upgrade to the JomSocial profile plugin. This is intended to give the admin the option of assigning all new users to a specified group, or (if you're using Full Joomla User setting in JFBConnect) the ability to select your profile type on the login/register page. For that upgrade, we'll be investigating similar features for JSPT, but aren't guaranteeing that support yet.

Hi Alex,

Think I found my answer here related to a problem I´m facing.
With the new JFBC the Facebook registration works much better since it require people to fill in necessarily information for Jomsocial. What I´m missing is the option to chose what member group type the user should be so now it ends up in wrong member group types.

I now saw that this are planed to be looked into - some questions related to this work.
Would it be possible to create so that you can create a unique tag for registrations so that you can call for what group they should be mapped to direcctly when they press the login / register button. By having this you could then easily create different type of registration for different type of group / membership - and minimize risk of that the chose wrong profile member group - if no tag is entered it should list all available groups to chose from.

We're going to be updating the JomSocial plugin later this week to fix a status import issue with 3.2. At that time, we're hoping to have the group selection option included in the release as well.

For now, it will be an option for the administrator to choose which group all Facebook members should be a part of. This is mainly because that will work for both Full User and Facebook Only user creation options. Also, for the Full User option (where there are additional fields on registration), we need to know ahead of time what fields, from which group, to show.

Hope that makes sense. If you have feedback on how good (or bad) this would be for you, we'd love to hear it. It doesn't sound like exactly what you're looking for, but will hopefully get you most of the way there.
