Topic-icon Template override for helper.php

Hi, everyone!

Big fan of SCLogin here. I've added a bunch of template overrides for the primary SCLogin files as follows:

[mytemplate]/html/mod_sclogin/

I've added login.php and logout.php to this folder, and I've been able to modify them with no problem.

Here's the thing: I want to modify helper.php. I've added it to that override folder, but modifying it has no effect, even after clearing my cache.

Any guidance? Where should that file go?

Thank you!!!!!

Unfortunately, there isn't an easy way to override the helper.php file. However, if you can let us know what you're trying to override in the helper.php file for styling purposes, we'll gladly look into (properly) pulling it out into the tmpl directory so you can use a proper override.

We already have a new version planned with some minor fixes, due out over the next few days. After that, we'll hopefully be able to make the styling options better with your feedback.

If you have any other suggestions on improvements, definitely let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex, I really appreciate the prompt reply! Here's what I was trying to do:

• I want to add a drop-down user menu. (No problem. SCLogin comes bundled with this.)
• BUT I want to replace the title of the menu with the username.

So that's why I was poking around in the helper.php file in the first place.

If I just need to hack the core instance of the file to make this happen, no problem, but I wanted to see if I could do it the right way. :-)

Thanks!

Yup.. you're going to have to hack away, for now. Please make sure you make a backup of your changes as well. As noted, we'll have a new release of that module out shortly which would overwrite your changes. After you upgrade, make sure you re-integrate your changes (don't just overwrite our new file).

Should you need anything else, or have any other suggestions for improvements, just let us know.

Finally, if you haven't already, please consider leaving a rating and review for SCLogin, or our support, on the Joomla Extension Directory. It certainly isn't required, but is very appreciated:

Thanks,

Hello!

So sorry I didn't respond sooner! Thanks for the information. I just wanted to make sure hacking the helper.php file was my only option before I did it.

I've got another question, but I'll open another thread. Thanks again for the great service and an excellent module!

No problem for the help. It's what we're here for, and I'm glad we could explain.

We'll look forward to your other post.

As mentioned above, if you haven't already, please consider leaving a rating and review for SCLogin, or our support, on the Joomla Extension Directory. It certainly isn't required, but is very appreciated:
