hi,

i have a question about sclogin in ie 9. i am trying to optimize my site for the three browsers (chrome, firefox, and ie) and in browser mode: ie 9/document mode: ie 9 standards, i'm not seeing the field hints/labels that appear normally in the other browsers (i.e. username, password). is there a way to fix this for ie 9? is this something i need to fix in the css? i do oddly see the "search" hint i have for joomla 3's smartsearch at the top right, so i'm thinking it's possible. but i just don't know where to go.

i do see the hints in browser mode: ie 10 compatibility view/document mode: standards and browser mode: ie 10/document mode: standards. i just want to make sure it get the folks who haven't upgraded their ie version to 10. i've attached a couple of screenshots to illustrate my question.

thank you for any help you can provide.

Betsy,
Very sorry for the delay in getting back to this, and thanks for the input and feedback on the issue. It does look like there's an issue with the "placeholder" text in older browsers that frankly we weren't aware of. Basically, most browsers in the last 4-5 years support placeholder *except* for IE9 and lower.

There is some Javascript that we're investigating adding to the SCLogin module to add compatibility with these older browsers. It's no overly difficult, but not something I can say will be available tomorrow. We're about to release a big version of our social networking extension which is taking all of our time now. I've added this investigation to be done after that and we will hopefully have a release out early/mid next month with this support.

For reference, the library we'll likely be using is:
github.com/mathiasbynens/jquery-placehol...query.placeholder.js

You can see a demo of it:
stackoverflow.com/questions/6366021/placeholder-in-ie9

Please feel free to test that demo in IE9 and let us know if that seems to fit the bill.

Thanks again,
Alex

hi alzander,

thank you for your response. i looked at the demo at mathiasbynens.be/demo/placeholder, and i think that functionality should be fine for fixing that issue with the "placeholder" text in the sclogin module when it's viewed in ie 9 and older browsers.

i understand you guys are busy with a big launch right now, so that's okay. i just wanted to find out if it was even possible to fix that issue and if so, that it would be in the works in an upcoming release. i'm glad to hear it won't be too hard of a fix for you guys.

thanks for the support, and i look forward to seeing the new release when you have it available. good luck with your big launch of your social networking extension!

Betsy,
No problem for the support, and thanks for your patience. We really appreciate you pointing out that hiccup with IE9. It's our users that help us find inconsistencies like that and improve our products!

We'll keep you posted when the release with this change is available, which will hopefully be by mid September.

Thanks,
Alex
