I am having a strange behavior from my frontend login.

Frankly I have no idea the source of the error, but since I am using sourcecoast login products I figured I would take a stab at your support forum!! perhaps you could give me some guidance.

My problem is that I can login, but when I do the page just refreshes with the login form unchanged. I can do this several times and then if I begin to navigate the site it says I am logged in.

Likewise the logout button acts similarly.

So while it works it is an incredibly awkward experience for the user.

I am curious if there is something I could have deleted or turned off at some point, or a basic setting I misconfigured, or perhaps a caching problem.

That behavior usually indicates you have browser caching enabled somewhere. The System - Cache (or System - Page Cache) plugin has an option to enable Browser Caching. It should always be disabled on sites that allow authentication.

Other optimization extensions can have the same feature, so if you're using something else to try and speed up your site, look there.

I hope that helps, but if you need anything else, just let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

thanks for the input

It appears all the caches are off. Stack ideas is helpin me as well and they turned them all off but didnt get the template one. I just did that one too but it is no different.

Well maybe it is different as now im even having trouble getting it to login, even without telling me (as it started out).

I checked access permissions as per someone on joomla.org and also added redirects to the default login menu item. That is the page where i now get no login or message just a reload.

I am running out of ideas but will check with my host later to make sure the page isn't being inappropriately cached by them...

do you have any other ideas?

Unfortunately, no, I don't have any other suggestions. Our SCLogin module uses the underlying Joomla authentication system if you're entering your username and password on that screen. So, if you're having issues with standard Joomla credentials, that means it's an issue with Joomla or another plugin (not the SCLogin module or JFBConnect). If the issue only happened with social authentication, that would be a different story, but I don't think that's the case.

The only other recommendation I can give is to check your .htaccess file. There are some directives in that file that can enable browser caching. If you didn't create that file yourself and had some automated tool do it, that could be the cause. You may want to try and get the original htaccess.txt file that ships with Joomla and try that, temporarily, to see if the issue goes away.

I hope that helps,
Alex
