I would like to have a "like" button for FB (which I can create using a module) and Twitter and LinkedIn buttons as well on every page - not just an article as some of my pages do not contain articles.... Can this be done? Thanks in advance for your time and help!

Right now, it's a little more difficult than it should be. We don't have one module that lets you insert all the social buttons. You can create a Custom HTML module and add {JFBCLike}{SCTwitterShare}{JLinkedShare}, etc and the buttons will appear.

With the v5.2 release, we will have a new social sharing module which will have easy on/off switches for the different social sharing buttons and easy to use layout options (horizontal/vertical, sizing, etc). The 5.2 release is scheduled for the end of October and, so far, is on track.

I hope that helps explain. If you need any help with the Custom HTML route above, just let me know, and we can gladly help get you going until the better solution becomes available.

Thanks,
Alex

Thank you Alex. I appreciate the quick response and the effort to get the new release out on time.

One other question if I may....how do I solve this error message:

"" is an invalid value for property "object" with type "Reference"

I get it when I "like" (FB) the page....Twitter and LinkedIn both work. I was not getting the error message, at first, when using the JFBCLike Module....and then I'm sure I made some modification somewhere that caused me problems. Any ideas? I've checked the configuration all the way to the error check process...can't find the problem. I'm not the brightest light bulb in the chandelier so don't laugh too hard over this....and thanks for your help in advance.

There's no dumb questions when it comes to social integration.. it's confusing, we know that and try our best to simplify things.

As to your question, it *sounds* like there's an incorrect Open Graph 'type' tag on your page. The 'type' tag describes what your page is about to Facebook in broad terms (article, recipe, book, movie, etc). JFBConnect should be setting these tags automatically for each page on your site, but there are ways to force it to some other value, like possibly "Reference". If Facebook doesn't recognize that type of page, they won't let a user Like it because Facebook won't know what the user is 'liking'.

Can you tell me if you know if you may have tried to change the Open Graph type value on any of your pages using JFBConnect?
Another quick/easy test is to run your page through the Facebook URL Debug Tool . From there, you can see what Facebook sees about your content. It also updates their cached values for your page and may make the Like button work correctly right away.

So, start there. If none of that helps, or it's all Greek to you... let me know a URL where we can test the Like button and we'll gladly investigate further.

Thanks,
Alex

First off, I greatly apologize for the delay in getting back to this post. It slipped off my radar. Hopefully the answers below get you going, but if not, let me know and we'll be much more responsive going forward.

I couldn't find a page that was showing the error you mention when I try to hit the Like button. The only page I actually found the Like button on was /index.php/welcome and it worked there. Running that page through the URL Debugger also didn't show the error you mention, so I'm not sure if I'm looking in the wrong place or what.. let me know if there's a different page to test on.

In your PM, you mentioned:

I really don't need an app in FB (unless you tell me otherwise as maybe I am blinded in some way - which is possible)...yet I would like to have some presence in the social media world to help market the site and program.

You don't need an AppID for the Like button, but it is required for a lot of social stuff like authentication (which looks like it would be beneficial for your site), Facebook invitations for friends, Open Graph Actions and a few other things.

As for recommendations. From what I see on your site, you don't have the Open Graph - Content plugin enabled. You should enable that which will automatically set better Open Graph tags on your Joomla Content pages. That plugin will set the image tag based on the article contents as well as the description. It's better to do that than to let Facebook 'guess' what's important about the page.

I hope that gets you going a little bit more, but if not, let me know.. Again, we'll help how we can.. and faster :)

Thanks,
Alex
