I apologize if this has been covered already. My search didn't produce any results.

I recently set up channels for joomla articles to post to facebook and twitter. When I publish an article, the post to the networks is great and is an excellent feature for our site. The problem I am having, is that I use tags for displaying certain articles in certain modules. These articles rotate out using the tags, so I will edit the tags in the articles and save the article and it will post again. Each time an article is saved, a new post to networks is generated. I would like it to only post on first publishing. How do I achieve that?

Are you using a feature of Joomla to do what you describe above, or are you using a 3rd party component for 'displaying certain articles in certain modules'?

The Channels features works with articles directly and should only publish an article with a specific article_id one time. If the article_id is changing, or you're creating new articles which somehow reference the same article, I could image how there could be duplicate posts.

Any details you can provide on your setup for what you're doing will really help us narrow things down.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,

sorry for the delay, i didn't receive a notice that you replied (don't think this forum auto-subscribes, subscribed now).

I am not using any other joomla extension, these are organic joomla articles, there are not duplicate articles, and I set it up using the sourcecoast docs. Last week, I opened about 6 published articles, changed the tag, and saved and each of these were published.

Now, I am pretty sure each of these was published BEFORE channels was set up, so it is possible that the channels system did not note these articles as previously posting to the networks so it was as if it was posting for the first time. Thoughts on this as the reason?

Yes, this is the culprit. JFBConnect has an autopost activity table in the database. When an article is saved, published, pending date changes, etc, we check the table to see if an auto-post activity has previously been recorded. Since you published the articles before the channel and auto-posting was set up, there would be no activity found in that table once you saved the article again with the tag.

Just to double-check, you can go into the JFBConnect backend > Channels > History tab to see all previous history. This last auto-post that you're seeing should be the only activity for the articles. This would confirm the above.
