Topic-icon FB social commenting - distorted responsive view

The social commenting works fine, I am using JFBConnect 6.3.

However, when I navigate to an article containing social commenting from the FB app on my Nexus 4...the article appears but the social commenting is squished to the left.

I have set the widget to width: "100%" - as instructed on another thread.

I have also hardcoded the value to say, 500px (to test)...and that seems to work without wrapping (but obviously unacceptable as the screen width is far smaller than the comments).

Any fix or workaround would be appreciated.

On the page, I see "99%" as the specified width. Facebook is very finnicky and only accepts the 100% value for responsive widths. When I try that value it *seems* to work, but you'll need to test as it's different when I test vs when the page actually loads the first time.

Thanks,
Alex

Haha you caught it during another test I was doing, sry 'bout that..it is now at 100% again. It works on the website but it is skewed on phones, two kinds that I know of. Even if you break out of the responsive view on the phone and choose "Desktop" it is still skewed.

Here is a page: www.villemarieonline.com/mulcair-goes-green-for-the-day

Thanks for the quick response.

While we don't have the Nexus 4 that you mentioned, we looked at that page using the Developers Tool simulator for Nexus 4. Here is a screenshot of what I saw and, as you can see, the comments are not squished. They take up the entire article width. Are you seeing something different on this device now?

Which specific devices are you seeing problems on? How squished to the side are the comments?

Hello, thanks for following through with me.

I don't know how you got that image (it would be great if thats what we saw!). A reader brought it to our attention, he is using s Samsung but doesn't know his model. I confirmed using my Nexus 4. In order to duplicate it, you need to click on a link FROM the FB app on the phone.

The screenie you posted seems to be a "Desktop" view...not the responsive one.

Here is what we see:

Edit: I have 2 browsers on my phone (Chrome and FF)...and I do not know which the FB app uses to display a page...or does FB use its own browser?

All apps use their own customized version of a browser. It could be based of the Chrome or Safari rendering engines, which both are very similar in their underlying architecture.

As for how to recreate, can you tell me:
* How are you clicking a link from Facebook? Is it using the Facebook app and clicking into a shared/liked article in someone's timeline?
* If you navigate directly to the page using the browser on the phone (not from the Facebook app), does it properly render then?

We'll need to narrow down the working vs non-working scenarios, we'll do what we can to narrow down what's causing the problems.

Thanks,
Alex

Alright.. we've recreated on our site and some other areas. I've gone ahead and submitted a bug to Facebook. There's nothing we can do to fix this behavior in our code. The bug report:
developers.facebook.com/bugs/802735953152551/

Please, please go to that report and click the "Subscribe" button. The more users that subscribe, the higher the priority it is in Facebook's eyes.

Thanks,
Alex

No problem. They closed that bug report, but I submitted a new one because something is obviously wrong in the mobile comment view:

I just wanted to update this post to let anyone following know what's going on. Facebook closed both bug reports I submitted. They admit there's an issue, but the last post noted that new versions of the Comment box (and other plugins) are being rolled out now. I don't know if they'll have the same issue, but we have to wait until they're available to see. If there are issues, we'll submit a bug report.

For more information, see their blog post:
developers.facebook.com/blog/post/2015/0...elping-People-Share/

So far, it doesn't seem like there are any changes required to load the new comment box. We just need to wait until it's rolled out to all apps, which can take a few weeks. There are some new plugins that we'll need to support as well as others that are being removed (Like Box, Activity Feed, Recommendations, Facepile). As always, we'll update JFBConnect accordingly to ensure the best integration experience with Facebook.

Thanks,
Alex
