Topic-icon Google + Login Profile Picture - can it pull others?

Hi Alex,
I have setup my log in box and JFBConnect to also have the opportunity to use Google+

When I log in using Google, it links it to the email address for the Joomla account that I have registered and the UserMap shows this so.

Trouble is, my google account doesnt have a profile picture - but my Kunena account does - The SCLogin box allows me to show the Kunena profile picture when I login as a standard joomla user - can the JFBConnect login show the Kunena profile picture, when there is no google picture already allocated?

Thanks

Rich

Rich,
Yes and no. If you are pulling in an avatar already to an extension like Kunena, I'd recommend editing the SCLogin settings and changing the "Enable Profile Picture" setting to "Joomla" instead of "Social Network", it will always show the Kunena picture.

We're hoping to have a better fallback option in the next release to detect if the Google image doesn't exist and use something else. Right now though, there are cases where JFBConnect can't detect if there truly is an image available for the Google+ user, and, in that case, the image is just blank.

I hope that helps explain,
Alex

Alex,
Thank you for the reply - Yes I had already set the enable profile picture to Joomla as you said.

I will wait for the next release as I am keen to show a user with a profile picture if at all possible?

Any idea roughly when I can expect the improvement release?

Thanks

Rich

When you are developing the fixes for Google+, can you be aware it seems to be copying the google+ profile picture on top of the Kunena picture in the Kunena User Manager rather than the other way round.

This I believe is an issue and should not happen - it means that even when the User map is removed, it still doesn't default back to the Joomla picture as its overridden.

I can get an avatar back by adding the avatar manually (obviously) or logging in in Facebook .- This also seems to be overriding Kunena. I have got the enable profile picture set to Joomla and the Link pic to social profile set to Yes.

I expected the JFBConnect User Map to contain the profile picture, but in neither case did I expect it to update another component.

Is that what you expected?

Rich

The 4 pictures I have shown are
i) the Login box after G+ login (no profile pic),
ii) Kunena after the G+ logon,
iii) showing the JFBConnect User Map (which I then delete),
iv) then after logging into the site with facebook the Kunena Profile picture is updated.

Rich,
We're shooting to have the v5.2 release out in early November. There should be some improvements to avatar handling in that release, but if you're still having issues at that time, we'll gladly work to iron them out quickly.

When you are developing the fixes for Google+, can you be aware it seems to be copying the google+ profile picture on top of the Kunena picture in the Kunena User Manager rather than the other way round.

It sounds like, in the Profiles area of JFBConnect, you have the "Import Avatar" setting enabled in the Kunena section. If you don't want that avatar imported into Kunena, you should disable that setting.

When that setting is enabled, your social network profile picture (Facebook or Google+) will be imported into Kunena. That's expected behavior.

I hope that helps, but if not, let me know.

Thanks,
Alex
