Topic-icon Are multiple Facebook Tabs available without installing another site?

I have read other threads and with a glimmer of hope was hoping multiple tabs might be implemented as of now? if not can specific instructions be given to achieve this?

Do we have to install another joomla site with template on another folder? does it matter if we use the same template or domain for that matter?

The sole purpose is to have a tab that shows another portion of my site which is a school page other than the home index page. so for each school we service we would like to have a tab. or in the very least show a page of our site that is where all the school pages reside. so this process doesn't have to be done multiple times over.

What are your thoughts and where is a good place to start with all of this? thanks,

Christian

Christian,
We get the request about every 4-5 months (which actually makes it a not common request) to support multiple Pages. It's still not something we support in JFBConnect because it's tedious to manage. Each Page Tab requires it's own Application ID, which means JFBConnect would have to manage all that stuff. It's simply not requested enough for us to implement a great management system to do that right now.

However, if you're interested in making some code changes, we can help guide you in what you'd need to edit to hard-code some API/Secret keys into our Page Tab stuff along with the URLs that the user should go to. It will take a little bit of work, but shouldn't be overly difficult.. if you're not too scared of some PHP :D

Thanks,
Alex

Oh, yeah, the alternative is to create multiple Joomla sub-sites, like you mentioned.

ok so what are you saying exactly? I believe I can get someone to do this for me?

1. How much php needs to be written?
2. Can this be done in a day or 2?
3. So all I will have to do is create more application id's and tabs to manage each application id?

Lastly, in this scenario I wanted to know if my tab for discussions is a pay for only subscription service that needs to be logged in will that still work even with various page tabs?

thanks

Actually, the more I think about it, I don't think you'll need to make any code changes as long as you're not using a custom template for each Page Tab. If not, what I'd recommend trying is simply creating the Apps in Facebook, manually setting the Page Tab and Secure Page Tab URLs to the full URLs on your site that you want to load and then installing those apps into your Facebook Page tabs areas.

The main reason code would be required is for JFBConnect to 'detect' that a specific Page Tab / Application was loaded and do something differently (like load a different template). If you're not needing that feature, you likely shouldn't need any code. Either way, creating the Apps and setting up the Page Tab URLs would be the first step in the process so that you can test and see what happens, but I think it should work.

Let me know if you have any questions about how to do what I said above. You won't be able to use Autotune to configure the other Apps, but there isn't much to configure about them.

I hope that helps,
Alex

Cool... so basically you are saying just to make another app, link it with my fan page and then set the tab to that app? I think it should work just like you are stating. technically would it create another canvas page to?

I will give it a try and let you know how it goes.

I have another quick question. Can you link the canvass app to a tab on the facebook page? I have another app as well that I would like to link to a tab on my facebook page.

You can't link Canvas Apps to a Facebook Page. The Page Tab is all that can be added to your Page. An App can have both a Canvas and a Page Tab, but the Page will only be able display the Page Tab.

Canvas areas are meant to be be linked to directly and aren't associated with Facebook Pages in any way.

I hope that helps explain, though it can be very confusing.

Thanks,
Alex
