Hey Alex! I'm setting up JFBC for the first time and am wondering how to tie Open Graph to articles. You started to talk about it here:
www.sourcecoast.com/forums/jfbconnect/jf...ems-to-facebook-wall
I've read the Open Graph docs, but can't quite figure out how you tie articles into the JFBC Open Graph to make nice posts for my Page wall.
I hope this makes sense, and appreciate any help you (or any users who have done this) can provide.
Thanks,
~Mark

Mark,
To specify the title, description and image you want used when the Like is clicked, you need to use Open Graph tags, as you already mentioned. Open Graph integration in JFBConnect is enabled by default, but you can check the setting in the Social Configuration -> Open Graph tab. Then, all you need to do is add the following tag to your article to specify the information you want used:
{SCOpenGraph title=Title of Page}
{SCOpenGraph description=Description for page}
{SCOpenGraph image=http://site.com/link-to-image.jpg}
If you don't specify a title or description Open Graph tag, JFBConnect will automatically set the tags to the meta title and description that's set for the page.

It will take Facebook 24-48 hours to update the image for new like's, so if you try right away, you may not see a difference. You can use the debug tool to see what Facebook 'sees' on your page from the Open Graph tags:
developers.facebook.com/tools/debug

You can also use the Open Graph tab in the social configuration area to specify a default image, in case you haven't explicitly set one on a page using the tag above. This is good for using your logo or something, just to make sure some random image isn't shown. To do so, add the following tag into the defaults box:
image=http://site.com/good-default-image.jpg

For more about JFBConnect's Open Graph features, see:

Hope that all explains, but if you have more questions, just let me know!

Thanks Alex! I think I have it now. I'm still waiting for my defined image to be used, but I have the SCOpenGraph tags working inside articles. Very nice!

Do you suppose it would be possible to integrate the OG tags in the article publishing options? I don't know if it's possible, but it would be slick!

Thanks again for the help, I do appreciate it. The more I learn, the more I like JFBC.

Mark,
Glad you're enjoying JFBConnect. There's definitely a lot there. We try to make things as easy as possible, but that's always a work in progress. Some features will always be complex, but we do what we can :)

For the image, the Debug Tool link in the post above *should* clear Facebook's cache to make the new image used immediately. If that's not the case, let us know the URL of a page with the wrong image and we can look into it more.

Finally, for the Open Graph tags in articles, we have a few updates planned to make the integration a bit better instead of having to put {SCOpenGraph yadda=yadda} multiple times in each article. One of those improvements will be an plugin that will display options on the right-hand side for Open Graph tags for easier entry/visibility. It's a work in progress though, but we're hoping it will be in the next big release (a few months from now).

Hope that helps, and should you have any other feedback or suggestions, we'd love to hear them! Finally, after you've taken JFBConnect for a spin, please consider leaving a rating and review for it, or our support, on the Joomla Extension Directory. It's certainly not required, but very appreciated:

Thanks, and best of luck!
Alex
