I just purchased JFBConnect. It installed with no problems, but when I try to configure anything, I receive the following error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /homepages/14/d91620075/htdocs/gbclifeline3/administrator/components/com_jfbconnect/models/config.php on line 9

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

This sounds immediately like a PHP4 issue. You need PHP5 to use JFBConnect (this is a limitation of the Facebook Connect PHP API's, and there's nothing we can do about it).

Can you check with your hosting company or technical person to see if you can upgrade to PHP5? If you're already using PHP5, please let us know and we can investigate further. Do not enable the plugins on your site until you can access the configuration page!

If I am able to get hosting company (godaddy) to upgrade the PHP (I do have 4), will it hose my site?

It shouldn't. There's a huge amount of backward compatibility between PHP5 and PHP4. I can't make any guarantees, but PHP4 is not going under any further development, and PHP5 was released in 2004.. so it's pretty rock-solid at this point with many, many improvements.

There's been quite a few users that have gotten their hosts to switch for them, and it's usually a very quick and easy process. Many times, it can be done with the flick of a switch in the hosting's administration area.

The below may help get you started for GoDaddy:
