since upgrading to 4.0.1 there are no more avatars imported from facebook - everybody gets the ugly jomsocial one. is this a known problem and how can it be solved? thanks in advance

Not a known problem, but we'll definitely look into it. Our automated tests don't have an issue with this, so it may be unique to your site.

Another thing to try, if you don't mind, is on our demo site which runs 4.0.1. If you run into the issue there, definitely let us know as it may be account specific, but other avatars seem to be coming in.

JomSocial Home page on the demo site:

With that said, can you let me know what JS version you're using? Also, did this seem to work in 4.0.0 or did you upgrade straight from 3.4 (which should be fine).

Finally, another test is to clear your Joomla cache as well as your browser cache. The Joomla cache has been causing a few users problems, especially if they're using a minification extension to combine Javascript files.

Thanks,
Alex

thx alex,
I just tested at your demo site and it's working there. I upgradeddirectly from 3.4 to 4.0.1 but at 3.4 everything was fine.
I'm also connected with facebook at my site and my avatar isn't replaced with jomsocial avatar but all NEW registrations don't have the avatar imported - don't know why... I changed nothing in the settings or did something else :( I'm using jomsocial 2.2.3 but I'll update to 2.2.4 now to check if something changes.

updating to jomsocial 2.2.4 doesn't change anything, still no avatars imported to the profile.
But I also saw that jfbc tries to gets the avatars, because they are in the tmp folder. Any ideas how to solve that?

Alex,
Sorry for not getting back earlier. Still not sure what would be doing that, but thanks for letting us know about avatar actually getting downloaded.. that helps narrow down possibilites.

How is JomSocial configured to handle avatars? Mainly, are you using any external storage like Amazon S3? We do all our testing with local storage, and honestly don't know if it works with the remote storage stuff... however, we can look into it if required. If set to local, then I think the next step would be for us to get into the site to debug, if possible.

Thanks,
Alex

hey alex, hope you received my private message with the site details.
In the meantime I found out something which may be helpful for you to solve the problem.
As said before when you register with facebook the avatar isn't mapped to jomsocial profile but it's stored in the /tmp folder.
When you logout and then login again within a short time at the second login it maps the avatar to the profile - perhaps this information is helpful for your testings.
I really hope we can solve this quickly - jomsocial avatars all over the site really look bad :D

Gonna be looking into this soon. Got a little sidetracked with a different forum issue on this site, and testing for 4.0.2... hopefully the final point-release for 4.0.

The info of the 2nd login importing the avatar is definitely helpful. Is this always the case? Does it really have to be a 'short time', or is it always the 2nd login that properly pulls the avatar? Definitely strange...

well, I tested now several times and with different accounts and it was always the case that with 2nd login the avatar was there. I was writing "short time" because in my attempt there was maximum 2 minutes between login / logout so I can't say if it's the same when waiting 5 hours. Absolutely strange.... hope you find the problem

okay, now I tested with hours between first andsecond login and also there it was working.
seems it's really always the second login...
